Important Decisions That Need Opinions
« on: December 21, 2002, 03:24:21 PM »
Ok here is the part none of you care about: When I got home from work today, my dad gave me a $200 Circuit City gift card for Christmas.

Now the part I need opinions on: I was origionaly thinking about getting a batch of PS2 games. Then my long lost thoughs past my mind. About two weeks ago I was concidering saving for an X-Box and decided it would take to long. Now I have the money and the the X-Box, JSRF, GT 2003 bundle thing Im torn. Should I get PS2 games or an X-Box. Also, four you alreayd owners of X-Box, do you need a memory card to save your game, or can you save to the hard drive?

You don\'t need a memory card.  Unless you want to take your saves to someone elses house (without lugging over the XBox).

The bundle itself is very decent, but probably not enough to make you satisfied with your purchase.  Make sure you pick up a copy of Halo and/or Mech Assault (among others).

But also, it depends on what games you want for your PS2.  Particularly if you wont be able to afford any other games for your XBox after it\'s initial purchase.

I would get the PS2 games.

I once had alot of free cash and almost made the mistake of getting a N64.  Thank goodness I didnt just out of the thought of getting another console cuz N64 had no games I liked.

So if this is your thinking (get another console because you have the money) I dont reccomend getting one.

No I do not want to buy X-Box just because I have the money. There are quite a few X-Box exclusive games that I am interested in, but the reason I have doubt is because I invested alot of money into Dreamcast, and look where it got me. Ive been hearing alot about X-Box being the next Dreamcast, and I don\'t want that to happen.

Also, I have 25 PS2 games, so I have enough to keep me busy as I purchase X-Box games. Don\'t get me wronge, I still want more PS2 games, Im just trying to decide which I want more. Does your opinion still stand the same based on the information I have provided here, as I myself am still completly torn on what to do.

Bobs_Hardware:

As of right now all I have is the money for the system. With Christmas coming that could change, and in the even that I recieve more money, I\'ve had my eye on Rallisport Challange, and with its $20 price tag, it looks in range. I would like to get Halo, but is it still priced at $50, if so thats gunna have to wait a paycheck or two, hehe. Im not really interesed in MechAssault since I don\'t have broadband for X-Box live (and I have the PS2 modem and online games for it anyways). While I might get flamed for a question like this since this isnt an X-Box forum, but do you know of any other games on X-Box priced at $30 or less as thats kinda the budget im looking at right now.

Damn, you have vouchers but still won\'t buy one.

A frind brought his round to my place the other day and we played Halo, Sega GT and Splinter Cell amongs others.

After a good 10 hour stint I decided that the pads are still crap and there is no standard socket for an optical lead to my amp. Apart from that it is total quality, makes a PS2 look and feel like \'My First Console\' from Tomy.

I am now a believer, especially at the prices it\'s being sold for at the mo\'.

Oh and if it turns into another Dreamcast just put it back in the box for a few years, you never know, it may be worth something (can\'t see it happening though, they\'ve already whupped Sony in the on-line gaming areas, power, graphics and general customer support, now pricing too).

I think I will like the X-Box pad. I like the Dreamcast pad alot better that PS2\'s. The biggest thing is the analog triggers, as they make a great gas and break in racing games instead of X and []. If not the bundle does come with the smaller Controller S as well. As far as a place for an amp, I havn\'t invested in a new speaker system yet, and when I do I would buy one made to work with X-Box. Also, while I believe this is a no, does X-Box come wiht an RFU adapter, as I have my PS2 on the RCA cables.

I would get a Cube...

XBOX and PS2\'s library\'s are very similar, while the Cube\'s seems to be different.

With Zelda and Crystal Cronicles coming to Cube, I am really tempted.

Then again, if you\'re more arcade/action game orientated go ahead and get the evil black box you trader:p:p
Haha

(I\'m bitter, cause my windows XP "repair" utility just fried my OS and I had to do a total clean install....damn BILL!!!)

Before you spend any money make sure you get a speaker/amp setup that will work with other components.

Yamaha do some REALLY cheap amp/speaker setups.

You could only be looking at a couple of hundred pounds for something pretty evil for a bedroom setup and then use the optical convertor that you can buy for the X-box. I consider one-system only speaker systems a complete waste of money.

Although you can just get some extensions for the phono leads running to the TV (on the X-Box cable) and wire them in to an amp.

CygnusXI:

I am definatly an action gamer, and a racer. Cube seems to be mostly RPGs, and the only two games i can really say i want that are GC exclusing are Sonic 2 and PSO (im trying to re live my DC as you can tell, being as interested in games such as JSRF, Sega Gt 2002, and Shenmue II for Box.)

I have reciently been looking at a few speaker systems. I know interact has one, creative has one, and there a few more. But what I want to know is if i get oe of those would it be possable to have them connected to my PS2, X-Box, TV, and CD Player all at once so I dont have to spend $400 on 4 speaker systems.

I ended up picking up another X-Box with JSRF,Halo,Splinter Cell and GT2002 for a measly £179

i simply couldn\'t resist it.. it isnt as if i had to pay for it tho\'.. the money was from my christmas.
but i have only been playing Halo.. now i have played it.. (nearly finished) i can honestly say ,hand on heart, that it
is within the top 3 fps shooters i\'ve ever played.. i cant wait for halo 2..
But despite this, i\'m still Sony\'s bitch.. i just love the PS2 and it wont get replaced by any other console. if i had to sell
one, it would be the X-Box.. simple
