..this is a line from the Roger Waters song Three Wishes. You don\'t think he\'s maybe referring to Gilmour or his other ex-bandmates there, do you?

The rest of Pink Floyd helped with the writing before? That\'s news to me.

I guess this might be a hint of Roger wanting to reform the band. Or he just sucks at writing songs by himself and needs a little assistance.

Well, considering how that album came out in 1991.. and he\'s never given any signs that he wants to reform the band..

And yea, the other band members helped with the writing before. By the time of The Wall, Waters had basically taken over complete and absolute control of the band; that entire album was written by him, with the exception of Run Like Hell and Comfortably Numb (coincidentally two of the best songs on the CD). All of The Final Cut was him.

But that wasn\'t always the case. On earlier albums all of the members participated in songwriting. Wright wrote some excellent songs in the earlier days of Pink Floyd--I like Paintbox a lot. Mason never really did anything, but he contributed to the songs now and then. The album Ummagumma was made largely because Wright feared that the band was getting taken over too much by Waters; he wanted all of their artistic abilities to stand out.

Gilmour always had a huge hand in things musically; in my personal opinion, the best songs Pink Floyd produced were the ones done by Waters and Gilmour together. Gilmour had a great amount of ability musically, while Waters had a great amount of ability lyrically. Each one made up for any lack of ability the other had. It was the perfect balance.

As Wright, Gilmour, and Waters went through their solo careers, their abilities and inabilities stood out. Wright had difficulty making anything great. Gilmour made excellent songs both on his solo career and when he led Pink Floyd 3.0 (Momentary Lapse of Reason and Division Bell were essentially all Gilmour, with the exception of Wearing the Inside Out on Division Bell being written by Wright.. a lot of the songs were co-written by producers and such, but no other band members). Waters, throughout his solo career, always had great concepts for his albums (just as he did with Floyd with Animals and The Wall), but the musical quality always suffered a huge amount. This is especially apparent in his 1987 album, Radio KAOS, which is basically just a pop album that sounds like other music released during the late 80\'s (read: Garbage). The concept was good, but the music.. ugh.

The music was best when they were all together. The stuff they release while apart is also good, but together they were PERFECT. Maybe Waters recognized that or something when he wrote that line.

Probably not, though.

If I was on my uppers, it\'s possible that we might have a reunion tour. But I\'m not, thank God.

I\'m a huge Floyd fan, and M4\'s post basically sums up all of my thoughts and feelings on each member\'s individual talents. Of all the solo stuff, Gilmour\'s is definitely my favorite. I have Richard Wright\'s solo albums, Broken China and Wet dream, and they\'re ok, but nothing special, and Nick Mason\'s Ficticious Sports, which is pretty bad, but still a great item to have as a fan/collector.

thanks for the link m4, a very good article for any floyd fan. I wish they would go on tour one more time though, just so that I can see them. or at least Gilmour should come around my neck of the woods, maybe I\'d go see Waters if the tickets weren\'t too expensive
