A Canon GL-2 and a Mac G4 with a 16:9 plasma monitor.

Ouch. They\'re not cheap by any means....but they\'re a pair made in heaven. Hopefully, this expensive hobby will create a path towards videographer doing stints like weddings and freelance stuff for studios and stuph like that. I\'m tired of my current carreer.

PS Did anyone see that movie "Full Frontal"? That was filmed using digital camcorders and Final Cut Pro! Yeah! Really!

Actually, only parts of Full Frontal were filmed with a Canon XL1(s) and they made it look like teh crap... ;)

But the GL-2 is a fine camcorder. I\'d buy one too if I had the money. :)
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAPETIME!

Congrat\'s on your Apple purchase. You truly will own one of the best computers and operating systems (OS X, yeah baby!).

On a non-propagnda note, I know how it feels to buy expensive items. I bought my HDTV Widescreen TV (yum), DVD changer and receiver. Now I\'m lookin\' to buy a laptop sometime later this month.

Yep. I saw the demo of the G4 dual processor and I was truly impressed! The software is what really sells me! Plus the ease of use. :)

Yeah, but as far as I know the edit software doesn\'t utilize both processors.  I\'m in the middle right now of purchasing an edit system and I had to make the choice of PC or Mac.  I\'ve had Final Cut for a couple years now on a G4 and it blows nuts.

My computer does not have a graphics board on it for real time rendering though so that may have a lot to do with it.  A simple 20 frame dissolve takes like 4 seconds to render.  Oh god.  ANd there isn\'t even a preview render so you can just look at it real quick.  You have to render it to see it or it\'s a blue screen saying needs to be rendered.

All graphics need to be rendered, for every freaking frame.  If you have a still picture up for 10 seconds, it has to render all 300 frames.

Anyway, I am getting an Avid Media Composer 1000.  I have a choice of mac or PC, but I am going PC.  The Mac will not allow me to do nearly what I want to do in the future.

Have fun in your new business.  I remember when I was going to make a company and call it, "I don\'t do weddings"  God, I\'ve done a couple and well, they are, yawn..

One thing though that you can make very easy cash with is music picture videos.  I did a video for a guy for his kid\'s 1st birthday of a bunch of pictures from the first year.  Made 350 bucks and I did it on my laptop at night while watching tv a couple nights.

Lots of people do this for their wedding.  A little music video to air during the wedding.  I\'ve done a ton of them things.

Congrats, but are you buying a plasma monitor? If so why, sure they\'re big but they have pretty low resolutions. One would think a LCD or a normal CRT would be a better and much less expensive choice.

And I suggest you keep a close eye on apple.com tomorrow (the 7th) MacWorld San Francisco is tomorrow so their could be some cool stuff on the way.

Ok my wife is looking to ay a G4 with our tax return (large famly means large return). The thing is I dont know the frist thing of the G4. Last I checked it wasnt compatable with a lot of programs out there. I thought that they were over rated, I\'m trying to talk her in to a Toshiba Satalite the one with the 2.4 gigs. And wat about the learning curve with the G4. She is needing it for graphics progarms. Can I get some input on this.

I love my Apple computer. You will lose quite a few popular Window\'s programs, but there is other programs that do the same thing more or less for the Apple and if you *must* use those programs just use Virtual PC and then you can use them on your beautiful G4.
Oh and get it with the super-drive.
DVD-R..Yum..

Yeah...that\'s a good point. 16:9 $3000 monitor or my current flat screen CRT at .25 dot pitch????

Just get two 21" monitors and put them side by side.  That\'s what most people do and you can get that done for about 5-600 bucks.
