Suikoden 3 sucks
« on: January 05, 2003, 09:07:21 PM »
Being a fan of the previous 2 incarnation, I look foward eagerly to Suikoden 3 and I\'m totally let down by this game.

The graphics are okay, but the lack of angle switching is really annoying. The story and character doesn\'t seems very interesting and it moves like snail pace in the beginning.

Lastly., the worst deal is the battle system. Unlike the previous prequels, it has been revamped and you have to pre-group your team members and it just doesn\'t have the oomp nor fun of the prevuious battle system. Not only that, your character moves way too slowly in battle in an already lame battle system making it even worst. I\'m about 2 to 3 hours into this game but i don\'t know whether I can sit through one more hour of this crap!!!

I\'m utterly dissapointed.....

That\'s a first. Most people have said they love it.

Anyway....I haven\'t played it yet.

Heh, you\'re 3 hours into the game and you already formed such a strong opinion... Yikes.

The storyline picks up quickly after the true runes are introduced and you\'re given better objectives.  In addition, you don\'t get many good or exciting characters so early in the game.  You need to give it time.

As for the battle system:  Yeah, it\'s different from the last two, but I don\'t understand why you dislike that so much.  You have less control over your characters, yes, but a whole new element of strategy has been added.  You need to pair up characters correctly if you hope to optimize your party, especially if you plan to get anywhere against some of the more difficult bosses.  "Lame" battle system?  Haha... I think "quick and efficient" would better describe it.  I don\'t know about you, but I like it when most random battles are over in a matter of seconds.  I like being able to use the "Auto" option if I don\'t feel like issuing commands to party members.  I like having the ability to end a random encounter with the press of a button thanks to the "Let Go" command.

Oh well, give it up you want.  I\'ll admit that I was disappointed in a few aspects of the game, but I also feel the storyline and the battle system are two of its strongest points.  They both eclipse a lot of the RPGs already out there in those regards, but if you feel disappointed already and don\'t want to give it a chance, it\'ll be your loss.  I can\'t promise that you\'ll fall in love with it if you keep playing, but 3 hours is not at all enough time to give any role-playing game a fair chance.

That\'s the whole crap issue...lack of control over the characters in the battle system. You can\'t even have one character in the group use an item to heal without the other being waste to do nothing. What kind of moronic battle system is this!!!

They should have just license the battle engine from Grandia Xtreme or somewhere else.

I never played any Suikoden, so I can\'t say much.  From what I seen on a preview, i don\'t really like it though.

Anyway, remember beginning of FFVII, the game was pretty much basic.  FFVII beginning seem like any ordinary ff series with good story, until after the Shinra thing, we start going to the world map.  That\'s when the game start to get into shape.  FFVII is more than just it look.  You can summon monsters, do many great side quests, entertaining music too.
I let this person borrow ffvii, and he played on the beginning of disc 1 where Cloud and Barret have to kill this scorpion, he got bored because he dies too many time and couldn\'t defeat the scorpion.  I think this person should play FFVII longer to realize how amazing this game is.  I know another person who played FFVII and didn\'t like it and he\'s still in beginning of disc 1 and in Shinra.  He said he like FFVIII better.  I was like, ffviii sucks!
anyway, different people have different opinions about things.
Despite this, from what i read on your comments, I will be sure to stay away from Suikoden 3 anyway.  Annoying camera angle and all really steal away the fun.

The character who you don\'t issue a direct command to will either attack the enemy or stay back and defend, depending on his/her attributes.  Can be frustrating, but hardly a waste; it simply calls for a better battle formation.

And Paul2, if you\'re ever able to play a Suikoden (especially Suikoden II, a very rare gem and my personal favorite), give it a try.  You\'ll probably enjoy the experience, especially if you appreciate a good storyline.  Just don\'t expect mindblowing graphics...

Paul 2: should really try Suikoden 1 & 2..those games rocks!! Not like the el-crappio Suikoden 3 at all...

I\'ll just pretend Suikoden 3 never happen in this universe and it\'s something thrown out from another parallel universe into ours.

It\'s the game in psx or ps2 version?  Suikoden 1 & 2.  And which version is better?  1 or 2?

My brother played it and he really wasnt into it at first but the story starts to put peices together and the 3 main guys eventaully all become part of the same story. You will find out who the fire dude is if you havent already found out and it becomes pretty good. Also there are some stuff about suikoden 2 in it. At this library theres a book about it, and some characters are brought back. One very well known character is also a big part of the story, But ill let you find out who that is.
1.FF7
  2. Grandia
  3. MGS
Is it me? Or does PSone own all the other systems?

Suikoden 1 & 2 are PSX games, I really like them both and you can transfer the savegame(when u finish 1)  from part 1 to part 2 to get some extra stuff in part 2...although I haven\'t try it myself.

Inferior graphics to Suikoden 3...but gameplay is a million light years ahead.

Suikoden  is my favorite RPG of all time. It\'s the only RPG that i have actually replayed. Once i finish an RPG i never touch it again but not with Suikoden. I replayed it 2 or 3 times before i finally beat it with all 108 characters. Sweet 2d gfx, awesome music, an emotional plot and a terrific battle system made it a winner.

I was very pleased with the sequel wich was very well done  but thoroughly dissapointed when Konami annouced part 3 was going to be in 3d. I refuse to play it. That\'s like making a 2d Virtua Fighter. It just wont feel right for fans of the series. I rather wait for Xenosaga and Star Ocean 3 for my 3d RPG fix and buy Golden Sun 2 for GBA for good ol\' fashion 2d rpg.
