Online Gaming with a router. Help needed.

I have a Cable connection with one IP... I recently started sharing this connection with a router.  Of course I assigned the IP to the router.

My problem is. I mainly do my gaming IP vs. IP, but I do not see my opponent getting a connection by entering 192.168.0.2 as the host IP.  If for example I host Madden ’03 or Live ’03 and my opponent enters my routers IP will the game be found?

My dad was the one who fixed mine so ill just tell you what he did, and if it doesnt make sense, i cant help, sry:

I found out the ip of my playstation(i didnt know the ps2 had a seperate ip than my computer until i did this) by playing Tribes: Arriel Assault cuz it says the ip while its connecting. If you dont have Tribes, then my best suggestion to find the ps2 ip is while ur ps2 is online, to go to ur computer and either go to the router admin and look at the ip\'s that are listed, or go to ur computer, press run, and type in winipcfg if you have windows 98, and xp is something different, but whichever thing u have to type to see the ip\'s.

Now, if u find ur ps2 ip, go to your router admin, and find somewhere were u can block a certain ip from the router, and if u type in the ps2\'s ip then you will be able to connect to anyone since the router wont be blocking any connections to the ps2 since the router basically doesnt see the ps2.

This was just my case so sorry if this doesnt help. I also have an A-B switch which might be the reason i was able to block my ps2\'s ip.

Luckee, he is talking about PC games....

192.168.x.x  is an internal private IP address range

it cannot be seen outside yer network

you need to give yer friend yer external IP

Could you elaborate on port forwarding and how this may be done I assume it is in the routers admin?

Look in your directions.  For mine I had to enter some dummy address so my computer will connect directly to the router.  From there there is a simple menu where you can add what port you want to forward.  I\'m not sure which you would put down though...

no reason for a switch

set up yer PC for DHCP and thats it richard.  the router will assign it an IP everytime.  it will also always try and assign it the same IP it last used

what kind of router do you have?

Well Guys I learned the basics of port forwarding, Netgear Tech Suppot was great.

Now I have yet one more question.

Where is the best place to find out what ports a particular game uses so that I can forward it.

Bought "Battlefield 1942", about to install - I will let you know what I think.
