I know that some of you must mass around with it some. I looking at a trade shool to learn it. for those the use it wha do you think, seeing that I dont know a thing about it, I\'m I wasting my time.
P.S. This needs to be moved sorry about that

I use CAD everyday at work. I design Industrial material handling systems (basically design factories). We use AutoCAD 2002 (soon to upgrade to 2004 in March) exclusively and I enjoy my job very much. As with most jobs the more schooling you have, the more money you will make. I\'m working at a small firm now with about 5 CAD operators, and with a 2 year Associates I get a decent salary w/ full benefits, with 401k retirement and profit sharing.
If you enjoy designing things and have strong math and verbal skills then the Job is cake. I\'m currently deciding on when I want to go back to school to get my masters in engineering (i\'m only 22). Someday I hope to own my own small engineering firm and be my own boss. Good luck to you

Been using Acad since it ran on a Turbo XT, those were the days, and recently moved to Inventor.

said you need to enjoy designing things. And that starts with basic drafting skills, like being able to project views. Being able to visualize that the 3" diameter circle in the front view is a 4\' long x 3" wide rectangle in the top view. If you have zero drafting background you need to learn that before you learn cad. Otherwise it be like learning how to use Excel (a very useful thing to know) and then getting an accounting job without taking any accounting classes. Seen my share of people who could run Autocad but couldn\'t draw a paper bag if you gave them the dimensions.
Once you know the basics the rest is on-the-job-training. As long as they don\'t have to explain it to you twice you\'ll do fine. Every company\'s cad dept does it different so be flexible.
If you have a couple artistic bones in your body learning something like 3D Studio is another option.

I\'ve taken 3 years worth of CAD in high school. I know all about it but have no idea what jobs are offered for it.
