Guitar Tabs
« on: January 24, 2003, 09:59:54 PM »
so I know weve got some guitar players here, and i was wondering if you all get into reading tabs like ive been the past few nights?

One of my best freinds is a seriously bad ass guitar player and he\'s never even looked at tabs... but on the other hand, I\'m having a great time with em.

It looks like my lifelong dream of being a one-man AC/DC cover band is finally gonna come true. tonight i learn "jailbreak"

off i go!

It\'s a shame that most people (at least in the US) only know the band through Brian Johnson...

Their 80\'s+ songs weren\'t half as good as their early works.

Back In Black rocked. Everything after that sucked however.
Who is this anamoly we call Jumpman? How is he able to do what he does and still survive after years of torment? It seems he feeds on the hate, growing with an intense passion to put unassuming members in their place.

I download the tabs i need at http://www.mysongbook.com and load them into the program and it plays them for you... in great detail.

you can even use it to create your own tabs.

Free actually I believe. My friend creates some beats on it.

And yes tabs are godlike, it makes learning any instrument (im begginning drumming) so much easier and fun. Screw all that fancy crap, keep it simple, so you can play the music anytime, anywhere, any skill level/

see i learned drums without ever reading any kind of music at all, tabs or anything, and i turned out pretty damn good if i do say so myself, so im wondering if useing tabs is gonna hurt me in the longrun by not allowing me to develop my own real style of play.

im getting a little deep here i guess.

nah, tabs are so much better than notation, what ever the hell you call it.

Just create a blank tab sheet. with nothing on it. and start creating beats, print out about 10 pages of those blanks, when you get an idea for a song, writte it down. their you have it.

The kind of tablature people publish on the internet is usually pretty crappy in my opinion.  When all you can use is characters like - | 3 - 1 etc, then you can\'t really notate the duration of the notes.  You can\'t play a melody if you only know the pitches and what sequence they go in.  You need to know the durations as well.

That\'s why standard notation is necessary ALONG WITH tab.  I think that the standard notation staff, with a 6 line tab staff below is the best form of notation for guitar.  Classical guitarists can perform without tab, but for the rest of us ordinary humans, tab is quite necessary.
