My first experience with an earthquake
« on: January 25, 2003, 02:55:55 AM »
Yesterday night, 21:20 in southern Spain. The Earth shook for a while: the furniture, paintings and lamps began to shake, and people went out of their homes.

It was a 4.8 earthquake in the Ritcher scale. Th epicenter was 120 kms from here, but I could feel it clearly. Never felt one before.

What\'s been your higher earthquake? Anybody survived to a 10.0 shake? :D

Australia doesn\'t get too many earthquakes, very rare actually. Couple of months ago, Brisbane got a 3.1, you could feel it but it wasn\'t all that, no one seemed to care.

I was in Mexico one time doing a story in Guadilahara ( I can\'t spell).

I was setting up for the interview and the house shook like a mother. Dishes came off shelves, lights swinging.  It was cool.  We don\'t have anything in FL, so it was pretty neat.  If ithappened just 5 minutes later I would have had it all on tape.

We then went to Menzania where the epicenter was.  It was cool.  Traveled through ancient volcanoes and crap to get their.  A couple hotels collapsed and houses were goners.  It was really neat.  Well, it was neat because I didn\'t live there. It was a mess I should say.

GOt some really nice stories though to bring back to the states.

yeah, there are earthquakes going on about every minute or so around the world.  Go to some of the earthquake websites.

It\'s true, there are thousands of earthquakes all the time around the world. But only those that are over 1 or so are noticiable. An earthquake over 6 is very dangerous. Better yesterday didn\'t happen nothing important. How big was that in Los Angeles years ago?

We get a hell of a lot of earthquakes in alaska. Mostly just little vibrations in the ground, but you can notice them. Anwhere between a 1 to a 5 on the richter scale. Some of them have been pretty bad though.
Think for yourself. Question authority.

In 1989 during the Loma-Prieta earthquake in SF.  It was a 7.1.  And I was in the worst place possible to be during an earthquake.  -_-
