Help: Best non-turn-based RPGs for PS2?
« on: February 04, 2003, 08:59:32 PM »
I fell in love with RPGs via Morrowind on the Xbox.  I got a PS2 a couple months ago.  So I\'m trying to find RPGs I like on the console that specializes in them.  Trouble is, I don\'t like turn-based fighting.

Besides Kingdom Hearts, are there any other non-turn-based RPGs for PS2?

Summoner had a good story, I enjoyed the game.  I hear Summoner 2 is even better, tho I\'ve never played it.  Some other forum members have played it and they seem to enjoy it a lot, so you might want to check that out.

Dark Cloud, too, is a fun game.  But it\'s not for everyone.  Dark Cloud 2 comes out soon I believe and it\'s MUCH improved over the original.

Other than that, I don\'t really know of any.

If you want beautiful graphics where you can fly with a dragon and land on top of mountains just to buy weapons and stuffs and a lot of freeroaming.

try   Drakan 2.

I vote it as ps2 action rpg which has the best graphics.

FF Chronicle seems to be very original and funny, get a GC and then the game :)

Non-turn based.... hmmm...

Dark Cloud was awesome, but wait til DC2 comes out and get that it will be MUCH better.

Kingdom Hearts was the most underated game of 2002, what a sleeper hit.

Yea it\'s good, but the whole underage love story freaks me out. How old are they? 8 or 11?

Kingdom hearts...bah...it gives me goosebump...Walt Disney just isn\'t for me.

Go for Summoner 1/2. They\'re the best action RPG on the PS2.

Well, I just rented Summoner 2.  I don\'t think it\'s my kind of game -- too much brawling, not enough character interaction and questing.  Then again, I only played for about 15 minutes so far.

Trust me, there is a LOT of questing and character interaction in the Summoner games.

Ok, I\'ll give it (Summoner 2) another whirl today.

I\'m smiling at what Soul Reaver said about the underage love story in Kingdom Hearts.  That made me a little uncomfortable, too.  I\'m 41, and I have a hard time identifying with a character who is 10 years old and in love with a little girl.  Yes I know we all have a child within, but sheesh.  (insert Michael Jackson joke here)

No, I\'m afraid Summoner 2 wasn\'t what I was looking for.  Too much hack-and-slash for my taste.

Guess I\'ll stick with Kingdom Hearts.  I\'ll take a look at Dark Cloud 2 when it comes out, and maybe I\'ll check out Drakan 2 in the meantime.

Thanks for the input.
