I know one thing, my dog is very intelligent and seems to understand certain conversations. I have also seen tv documentaries where experiments have been carried out to test animals intelligence. One test involved an octopuss that learned to unscrew the lid off a glass jar to get at some food.

Animals react on an instinct and as time goes on, with more interactions with humans they become less skittish. They have a brain and can think as far as their intellect will allow them. They communicate through sound as we do but it is less complex as their lives are less complex. I guess the truth of the matter is that we as humans may never really know what they think. The only people that truly believe that animals can think as humans do are those from PETA. They are one heck of a sad bunch of peeps.

its not a question of whether animals can think or not

it\'s if they are conscious of themselves

sure, it\'s any being\'s instinct to eat, shit, sleep, but are animals self aware?

I’d say so, some animals see themselves in the mirror and know exactly that they\'re looking at themselves... others do not.

Personaly, i think anything with a brain has some idea of thought.

How else would they do what they wanted to do? I mean, its pretty unbelieveable saying their minds are controlled, without them even thinking, a bit one sided i think.

Explain to me how can a dog rescue a drowning person from ice cold water, without thinking?
