A few question to the ps2 pro\'s here
« on: February 21, 2003, 04:29:41 PM »
well, as I said in the other thread, I bought a ps2 a few days ago and I need to know some stuff concerning this console.

1. what are those USB plugs for and what can I do with them?

2. I got a logitech wireless rumblepad for pc using USB, is there any way I can use it on the ps2?

3. What are the most fragile part fo the console I need to take care of? does the fan die like those pc cpu fans?
in other therms what are the comon hardware failures on this console?

that\'s all for now :)
thank you in advance for answering those few questions ;)

Make sure you don\'t move the console while it is in use as you run the risk of scratching your discs. The only problem I and a few others here seem to get, is a build up of dust in the machine that makes it difficult to read some games. Most notably the blue disc games. This is easily sorted with a lens cleaning disc though.

Avoid dust with any cloth meanwhile you don\'t use it.

Also, use a surge protector

Don\'t let smoke get near it

Going by the boards, lens cleaning is most always the fix for those who bother to try

about the USB ports...

I guess anyone with basic ps2 programming knowledge can make usb devices that arent meant for ps2 work on the ps2...

are there any examples of that?

about the usb ports :
everything (hardware) needs a software to be recognized and "driven" from the system (well known as driver) .
So even a web cam , a cdrw and a printer could work with the ps2 USBs if someone (the manufacturer mainly) programed a software for this specific use. But unfortunately (except for ZIP drives through action replay or gameshark) for marketing profits, the peripherals of PCs dont work with PS2 and vice-versa.

ps : action replay and gameshark are the examples you asked for Adil :)

do keyboards require software for use?
