first off my specs
p4 1.5
256mb RD ram
40gb hdd
sb pci 128
gf4 Ti4200 128mb
win xp pro

now i know that my pc aint top of the line, but it sure is sucky at playing games even the fps in counter strike which used to previously run at a constant 85 fps (my monitors refresh rate) has started to now suffers considerably from dipping in the fps during the game.

even today when i finally was able to download and install the raven sheild demo, and even at setting everything to either medium or low (only the resolution was set at 1024x768) the game was choppy as hell.

any one know any tweaks for win xp so as to enable better 3d performance?

I\'m not sure if ur being honest about the CS thing, but my cousin has a 1.4GHZ P4 and he\'s having the same problem with newer games. Get a faster CPU. (u\'ll prolly need a new motherboard, since ur CPU is pre 2GHZ)

Can you try and reinstall Windows? Sounds like you\'ve been filling up the system with teh crap... Do you have the latest drivers?

avvy yer right i should get a new cpu but unfortunately i\'m kinda strapped for cash right now :( :crying:.
but hopefully in couple of months i\'m gonna get a new PC :).

sammy i do have the latest drivers, but i think yer right i should reinstall windows.

btw does anyone know wether win xp\'s "system restore" affects performance.

Well, I did buy cutting edge,

P4 2.53 (533 FSB), 512 MB Rambus Ram, TI4600, etc...

Games ran like shit, utter shit (well, not super bad, but 60-80 fps).  Unreal 2 was my main benchmark (with some space sims).

Then I installed windows 2000 instead of XP.  My fps on most games doubled, and I have NO problems running Unreal 2 at 1200x1024x32 with maxed detail, lighting, anti-aliasing, 3D sound, etc.....

XP just doesn\'t handle things as well as 2k does, so my suggestion is to go back a generation.

raven shield really does eat up ur FPS rate. And the full version is even tougher, so that could stop u from getting it before u figure out how to fix it. The only way i know how to help ur FPS in raven shield is by:


first off open up my computer
then go to program files
then go to redstorm entertainment
then go to Raven Shield Multiplayer Demo
then go to Save
then go to Profiles
so it should all look like this C:\\Program Files\\Red Storm Entertainment\\Raven Shield Multiplayer Demo\\Save\\Profiles
then open up the onfile file in there User.ini
then at the top of that widow fress edit and then find..
type in ShowRefreshRates then press enter
it should say this ShowRefreshRates=False
make it look liek this ShowRefreshRates=True

after that save it and exit the user.ini.
next open up raven shield as if you were goig to play.
go into options and then graphics.
change your resolution so what ever you like to play with mine is set at 1024-768@85
the @85 is your refreshrate
if you dont see click on and and scroll down there in there. have fun and remember to always back up any files you edit.


This wont help drastically, but it helps mine a good 15-20 FPS.

or try different nvidia drivers.. update them etc.

but i think sammy hit the nail on the head,  ithink that theirs way too much crap in my pc. i\'ll format and reinstall once i have the chance to do it.

btw viper i have absolutely no probs in multiplayer it is only choppy in single player, this is the same case with sof2 in sp i get 40 FPS but in mp i\'m at a constant 100+ FPS.

yeah 256mb aint much but rd ram is way too expensive around here, they cost around 80$ for a 128mb chip and 256mb chips r for 130$ and the killer (as u know) is that u have to buy rd ram in pairs.
