Superbit DVD\'s
« on: March 25, 2003, 05:22:25 AM »
Is there really that much of a difference between normal DVD\'s and Superbit DVD\'s? Superbit DVD\'s apparently are able to give much better picture quality then standard DVD\'s (using higher bit rate, come from original digital masters) but you have to lose the special features etc because of the extra file size.

Is it really worth spending alittle more for a Superbit DVD? Im considering buying Resident Evil but im not sure.

BTW Superbit DVD\'s work on any dvd player.

superbit is mostly a marketing scheme

IF you have the proper equipment, you might notice a slight improvement

oh, do yerself a favor and dont buy Resident Evil

go pick up Night of the Living Dead (1990 remake)

The Resident Evil is a slight improvement - but not much. Honestly, if you do not have the highest end equiment, you won\'t notice any difference with Superbit and even then, it is for audiophiles and videophiles who notice the smallest things...

I truly doubt it would do you any good. Do yourself a favor,by a multi-region player and get the German 2-Disc Resident Evil release, which has a great transfer and plenty of extra\'s.

would you need a HDTV to even notice the difference?

Well, most of you know, my dad is a home theatre SUPERFREAK. He does it for a living when not doing special effects in movies...

anyway he has this thing, a \'Extron USP 405\' or something. It gives much better quality HDTV as well as better quality picture through DVD. we have a three tube projector, some mega ass SONY one.

I honestly don\'t have a clue as to what I am saying, but i really enjoyed Resident Evil, so i was considering buying it in Superbit (cause I thought we had a good setup). Yes, I have multi region DVD player.

You don\'t need an HDTV to see the difference, just critical eyes.  Many DVDs just look like crap to me, and you still have to realize that they are low resolution, and compressed to boot.

Personally I\'ll pick up the SB edition over the standard if there\'s one available.  I don\'t usually look at the extras.  I\'d agree with mm on the part that it is mostly a marketing ploy (what Sony does best).  Superbit is Sony\'s creation made through Columbia.  Other companies pretty much do the same thing by releasing the feature on 1 disc, and the extras on another.  It\'s not rocket science...

On a 9" CRT projector you will see a difference.

Yes, thats what its called, a CRT projector, three colour tubes, big mother of a thing.

I cannot even watch digital tv anymore without the Extron thingo on. Big difference.

shut the **** up mm

i bet im half as much cultured as you when it comes to friggen cinema. I like Mariah Carey, so I like Glitter, I like Resident Evil, so I liked the film

Some of my utmost favourite movies include \'Clockwork Orange\', \'Mulholland Drive\', \'Cube\', \'Frankenstein\'s Bloody Terror\' and \'La Invasion de los Marcianos.\'

So dont go shooting your mouth off.
