auto modelista, who has it?...
« on: March 26, 2003, 04:06:31 PM »
i just got a call form funcoland, i reserved this game months ago and they finally got it in, i\'m going to pick it up in a bit.
i forgot all about this game, but i can\'t believe there is no talk about it.  i would think that a cel shaded racing game might generate some talk, but maybe everyone is like me, and forgot about the game totally.
so, anyone get a copy yet?  how is it?

okay, picked this game up a little while ago, and so far its great.  its like GT3 in anime.  a lot of the same cars found in GT3.  a decent amount of adjustability to cars ( you have to unlock things in the game, like turbo\'s and such ),
the control of the car is a little wierd though.  it doesn\'t seem as realistic as GT3, but more arcade like, basically, if you\'re a GT3 fanatic, you\'re gonna need to practice to get used to it.
also, lack of damage in the game was also a bit disappointing.
i\'m gonna get back to playing it, but if you have questions about, ask.

How is the handling?

I know this is kind of vague, but I keep hearing mixed
reviews. I\'ve read a couple recently where guys said
they _hated_ (and that\'s being nice) the handling and
that it was nearly impossible to go around a turn (let
alone a lap) without spinning out/crashing.

Also, have you played online? How was that experience?

yep, you heard right, the handling is horrid, at first.  i was getting frustrated a bit, but it didn\'t take me that long to figure out how to turn. you have to learn to slowdown, and maybe down shift before turning.  those long turns are the worst when you start, because you start drifting, and then you oversteer and spin out.  it took me about 30 minutes of actual game play to figure out how to turn properly.  i would at least rent this game if you are worred about the turning issues, but i think you will like it after actually playing it.
i dont have a modem of the ps2, so i dont know how the online play works.

I want to play this game a lot. But i dont think you have really played gt3 a lot if you think that is has almost the same amount of cars cause i didnt think they were packing that much in auto modelista. Maybe 30? That and of course its more arcade-ish. Its obvious. GT3 is a sim game. However the handling is i want to try it. meh

I haven\'t played it myself, per-se, but I have a friend who imported the game, and he regretted it.  He generally doesn\'t complain about imports he buys that he doesn\'t like, but he mentioned that he only played it for a couple of hours, cause he couldn\'t do the switch after hundreds of GT3 hours.  I\'ll try and get him to play some more later, see if he changes he more.

I\'ve been a beta tester for AutoModellista for about three months. Though the handling is bad, it\'s still fun playing online against others. I just HAVE to win! Sometimes you\'ll get some nitwit who\'ll drive the opposite and kamakazi your ass....I love that! It\'s kinda funny when it\'s ~not~ me he takes out!

Its funny you ask. Actually it is and i wanted to change the spelling cause it looked funny to me when i tried to remember how to spell it. Then i remembered that he had "photographic memory" and felt like a dumb ass :D.

Bought it. Was turned off by the handling.
I may give it a more in depth try here in a couple days, when I have the free time.

Update:
In brief playtime, I have started garage life. It is fairly interesting. As for the handling - I still believe it is way off, but if you learn the trick to it, it isn\'t so bad. The main thing is, no matter what, slow down for the turns. I attempted to power sldie I do not know how many times and everytime I went into the wall. I then started to slow down before each turn and lightly hit my brakes and viola, I can get through the turns without problems and still finish 1st.

yea, thats the trick, slow down.  if you do a power turn, it feels like you are drifting, then you just end up oversteering and spinning out, there is no way around it.
i have learned to slow down and turn, but i have yet to win first, i suck big time.

I was sooooo excited about this game the first time I saw screens, but now with these extra comments, it sounds like a renter to me.
