I saw it like a month ago. We bought the VCD when it first came out in Chinatown. It was all over the place and all the video stores were playing it.
I think I\'m numb to all that flying, fighting stuff. I grew up with that stuff. But I did enjoy the sceneries. The actress who played one of the assassins was just wonderful (as usual). She kinda reminded me of an anime character (Fruit\'s Basket, for those who are interested). Totally loved her character.
Althought I thought the way the director used cloth was just magnificent, I think it was a bit much in the end. My mom said that this particular director likes using that much cloth in his movies. The choice of color was great though. Gotta love that.
Music wasn\'t too bad, but I think it\'s starting to get to the point where it\'s just generic...but that\'s just me.
I think Jet Li being type-casted again is a bit tiring. Although his performance was excellent, I think he could do something else. He did try to break away from the type casting in one movie where he\'s a Chinese country-boy moving into Hong Kong to do something. I forgot what the movie was about, but I remember I liked it. Kinda disillusioned my image of him being a Cantonese speaker, like I\'ve seen him speak in the Wong Fai Hong movies (dubbings), but I\'m over that.
My main concern with all these types of Chinese movies coming out and into America is that the non-Chinese community will continue to think that all Chinese or Asian people can do kung-fu or that all the movies have flying and fighting in them. But oh well. I\'m just hoping that the small Chinese-American community of actors here can break down that steretype.
