No operating system found?
« on: April 20, 2003, 09:28:05 PM »
Fixing my girlfriend\'s computer. It boots up, and then a black screen says, "No Operating System Found".

I can\'t even reformat the turd. Doesn\'t find, or says that the harddrive is damaged.

So should she just trash it?

Have you popped the little bitch open, and got your fingers in her?

I mean the computer, not your girlfriend.

Can you get into Bios?  Does it recognize the C drive?

Try a boot disk, and if you access the c drive, run scandisk.

also, make sure you don\'t have an disks in the drives, so check the a,d,f drives.

Your hard drive is gone bud, most likely.  Had this happen to me and it was an electrical failure.

Before trashing it. Make sure the ide cables aren\'t rooted or the IDE port itself.

Try using the cdrom ide cable on your hard drive and see if it boots. Just pull it out of your cdrom and plug it into your hard drive.
If it does work, then pull out the SAME cable from the IDE slot on the motherboard and put it in the IDE slot on the motherboard you use for your hard drive
If it works. Your Hard drive ide cable is dead. If not, and all of the above failed then your hard drive is in heaven.

Well it was my girlfriend\'s computer and I\'m pretty sure there was little to no porn on it.

I printed this thread, and I\'m gonna work on it some more this weekend.

Well since your printing this out to take to your GF\'s house...

Vapor Don\'t read past here.

Hey girl, how\'s it go\'n ;)

So you still with that loser Vapor?

You know he was born with both male and female genetalia?

He get\'s off on wacking himself in the ass with a hair brush, bad thing is that when he breaks the handle off, he get\'s blue ball (yeah single, but I\'ll get to that later) and he has to walk around with bed head for two days.

Did I mention he\'s ghey?

So once you dump him, and you need a lap to cry on I\'ll be glad to listen to your muffled complaints about Vapor.

Yeah, the thing is done for pretty much. But what to do with it? Just put it in the garbage disposal? Should I try and sell it? Any of you want it? It smells nice.

I would destroy it just in case there was any personal information on it.  With the right equipment data can be recovered.

Burn it or smash it w/a sledge.  Even just running a big magnet all the way around it might do the trick.

I pull apart harddrives that a rooted and take everything that can be taken from them (screws etc). Once they\'re open they won\'t be reused. But a sledge hammer to the platter/s would help. :)
