~Official NFL draft thread~
« on: April 25, 2003, 02:20:47 PM »
Ok, I know at least I want to talk about this, so hopefully some other people here will too.

The NFL Draft is tomorrow, and things are happening already.  Carson Palmer is signed and all but picked by the Bengals, but more importantly, the Jets traded up to the #4 spot with the Bears.  Any thoughts on any of the developments yet?  And who plans on watching the draft?

I\'ll be watching it, hopefully the Niners will pick up a WR.  With Erickson at coach, they\'ll be running a single back 3 wr formation, thus need a third WR to team up with Streets and Owens (Stokes is going to be traded or released, in my mind)  I almost wish that Barlow wasn\'t so young, because if we had a rb that only had a couple more years in him, I could see us getting Willis Macgehee, but won\'t.

So put the niners down as getting Kelly Washington if there are no trades.  But seeing as the Niners have an extra RB in hearst, and a crap WR in Stokes, don\'t be surprised to see them deal one or both of them off and move up in the draft.

*edit
I should add that Garcia\'s stock is not very high, so we might pick up a QB in the first round...which I\'m not a big fan of.

The Chiefs are in a bit of a predicament as of right now. The Best case scenario is that Jerome McDougle stays around until the 16th pick, which is nearly impossible. Most likely, the Chiefs will trade down so they can pick somebody like Andre Woolfolk or Chris Kelsay, but if they\'re unable to do that, they could very well take an Offensive Lineman like Eric Steinbach from Iowa.

See Yuz.
What do Kerry Wood, Mark Prior, Matt Clement, and Carlos Zambrano have in common?

They\'re the pieces to the next great pitching rotation of our time, what else?

No Omen! WE WANT DEFENSE.

I want either a DL to compliment Andre Carter, cuz we lost both Stubblefield and Okeafor in the offseason. Imagine a top rookie pick and Andre Carter at the other end. Talk about speed, we\'ll give quarterbacks nightmares.

If we don\'t get a DL, then please find someone to replace Mike Rumph. We lost in large part to Tampa Bay because when our secondary got banged up we had no one who could step up, we need to beef up that secondary.

The Colts in my opinion should draft a good strong safety, like Mike Doss, or possibly trade up and get a good DT.

The Dolphins need a better QB, but they are retarded and will probably pick another player to go into their deep secondary.  They better pick some players on the offensive side of the ball, their defense is already solid, maybe a DLman
I have no signature...I rule.

Mike Rumph was a first year DB, he\'ll be a lot better this season.  DB\'s take awhile to mature, so I wouldn\'t worry too much about the defensive backfield.  I agree that a d-lineman would be nice, but I think that\'ll be taken care of in the second round.

Jets take Robertson, who\'s been getting Warren Sapp comparisons all week.  I\'ll take it.  The one thing of Sapp\'s he doesn\'t seem to have is the mouth :)

Rogers..... Good choice IMO by the Lions.  Can\'t wait for this years football to start.

BTW, the Falcons new uniforms are the best.

Well niners went for O-line, which is fine with me.  And since they\'re trying to bring in Marcus Robertson, I can see why they didn\'t try to draft a WR.

Giants go with a DT and a DE, which I\'m very happy with.  Don\'t entirely understand why they took a TE in the 3rd round, but whatever.

Jets got a DT, a LB, and a FB.  Pretty much what they needed to address, so I\'m happy.  Still pissed about the whole Redskins thing, but meh, oh well.

Well, being at the Bengals means Palmer\'s career is all but over. I feel sorry for the poor fellow - well almost..That heft contract of his should brighten his day - even if he is stuck with the worst team in NFL history.

Well, honestly I\'d argue that the Lions are the worst team in NFL history, not the Bengals.  At least the Bengals have been to 2 Super Bowls (and came damn close to winning one of them too)

It\'s not like the Lions haven\'t been to a couple of NFL Championship games themselves.

The Chiefs got a RB with the 27th pick in Larry Johnson. What sense does this make? Your guess is as good as mine.
