Is the Jurassic Park DNA theory possible?
« on: July 16, 2003, 02:33:28 AM »
I find this kinda stuff really interesting, and after looking at this website http://www.cryptozoology.com/ (as featured in my other thread) its really got me thinking about dinosaurs and the like.

In Jurassic Park they talk about dino DNA found in mosquito\'s. Would it actually be scientifically possible to re-create them from DNA using a cloning process?

If so, then you would think they would be stocking up on rare animal DNA, so that if/when they become extinct, they can still create them.

The problem is that never has been found a mosquito with blood to clon.

They ve succeded cloning monocyte organisms as a start. The multicellular organisms are the problem.A single cell cant multiply itself and develop a complete multicellular with different kinds of tissues, etc just like the way an embryo is made.If you remember well in Jurassic Park they had a fragment of dinosaur DNA so they used a frgament of a species with similar DNA to complete the dinoasaur DNA so that the multicellular organism can be developed.Mitosis I think that is called?
Two years in the army made me forget everything.

There was talk of bringing back the wooly mammoth by using elephants. The problem is that once there is elephant DNA in there you can never get 100% mammoth, even breeding it out won\'t get it all.

Anyway, they had their chance and nature saw fit to destroy them, who do the scientists think they are, God?

Science will never stop Green. Who knows. Perhaps in 50 years there are lot of zoos full of prehistoric creatures.

We are trying to out-smart Nature.

It\'s just quite worrying, stem cell research, designer babies, a 16 year old with a fake penis being grown on his arm!

Science has gone mad, we should be doing useful stuff with these brains, like putting people into space rather than robots etc...

I don\'t think science develops useless stuff. Everything can help us because there isn\'t better way to face the future.

I think that there\'s a line that\'s being crossed on a regular basis.

How would you feel if you found out you only existed because you had a spare part that was needed?

Have you heard about the being that scientists created that is basically a bag of spare organs with only enough of a brain to sustain the organs? So they argue that if it doesn\'t have a brain, then it cannot be self-aware, and therefore has no soul.

When exactly do you think Dinosaurs existed, Racer, if the world is only 10,000 years old?

ahhh... I understand now why Jesus saved us... We should let Gibson know that Jesus killed them. A scene of matrix-fight style between Jesus and the Tyrannousaurus would rock.
