Well I am the director/producer/line producer/and production coordinator.
So I pretty much know how to do most things around here.
I also use to shoot so I get pretty good respect from my crew because I\'m not just some guy telling them what to do that couldn\'t do it themselves.
The problem is you have to start making NO MONEY. It blows. I got out of college nad I was making 18 grand on my first job. I was only there for two years and I moved to Tampa and began making 34,000. So that wasn\'t bad.
It\'s just real tough not having experience to make any type of money. You end up being a production assistant, a grip, or something like that. Something that will get your feet wet and make you contacts.
I went the news route. I shot for 7 years, ran all around getting pretty good stories. I was essentially maxed out for cash in Tampa other than the piddly 4% raise each year. So I went into producing a tv show.
I "lucked" into the job because it was a friend of a friend situation. It really is who you know.
I put lucked in quotes because I hate my job. But it\'s a job so I can\'t complain. Actually I like my job, I just don\'t care for my boss and I hate being fake all of the time to him so he doesn\'t feel my utter disgust.
So to sum it all up:
Be a PA at a local production house.
Prepare yourself to make no cashola.
Meet anyone and everyone you can.
