You know, you guys are such dorks for not liking good cinema.

Seriously, you look forward to a piece of crap like Freddy vs. Jason, and you sh@t on something worthwhile like this film "Open Range." I wasn\'t even going to bother to say anything about it, since I know you all have no taste, but since Sammy brought it up, I have to come forward.
I saw Open Range on saturday, and it was very worthwhile. It\'s no masterpiece, I will admit. I liked "Unforgiven" and "Dances with Wolves" better as examples of modern westerns. Also it comes nowhere close to my favorite western of all time, "Once Upon a Time in the West." However, this film was very very good and I would recommend it.
You may dislike Kevin Costner, and I can even sympathize to a degree... however the real earth shattering performance in this film is Robert Duval\'s. It\'s so amazing that at his age, I can still be shocked and surprised by him. You think you know every trick he has in his bag, but then he comes up with something totally new and it\'s stunning. It\'s sort of the feeling I had after seeing "The Apostle" a few years back. The film is worth seeing for him alone.
For those of you who only care about seeing violence and action, Open Range has a scene that is easily the most frightening and realistic depiction of a 19th century gunfight that I have ever seen in any motion picture. For you, it would be worth it for that scene alone.
Expand your horizons and see something thought-provoking for a change. [/sermon]
