This is not good. I\'d expect a recall on this soon, I hope. I posted this mainly coz some of you are about to get your first car. Some might end up with a \'03 Mustang.

Man...I hope this doesn\'t get locked like my Bosnia Blond thread.

The was a similar problem a couple of years ago in the UK on ford focus\'s. The engine would die and you would have no steering/brakes. One guy nearly died going down a steep hill. Very scary I am sure.

you still have steering and braking without the engine running in a car

bah, my 1st car (80 chevy citation) didnt even have power steering or braking.  my dads car (70 olds 442) doesnt even have rack and pinion. it\'s a work out to drive that beast

i am pretty sure when i turn off the engine on my car, steering doesnt work. When i am parking on the street, i often turn it off 15-20 feet before my parking, and just let it smoothly slow down to is place, but i cant steer.

i have a corolla 2001
can\'t see why not!

you can steer, it would be stupid for a company do make a car unsteerable if the engine died.

what DOES happen in alot of cars, is the steering column locks when you turn the key to neutral

my wrangler is a clutch, so i always cut the engine early when parking it and i can steer/brake without problem. it\'s just difficult without power assistance

What troubles me is the guys are like "Oh, it\'s common. No biggie." Luckily there are some guys there with some common sense and words of wisdom.

Cliff note version :

New Mustang owner: "my car keeps shutting off unexpectedly. Its done this twice now

Mustang owner2: "yeah.. happens all the time.. its pretty normal as far as i can tell.. lots of guy\'s have that happen"

Mustang owner3: "yeah!.. i had this happen this morning, my steering wheel came off too.. i just grabed onto the shaft, and twisted to get me around this wrx i was raceing. Then my breaks stoped working for a while, but I didnt\' need to stop then, and they work fine now. Got my wheel back on in time to turn into the drive."

New Mustang owner: "oh.. well thats good to hear, though i might have had a real problem for a while."

So what is the likelyness of this problem carrying over to the new Ford GT? Correct me if I am wrong but I beleive I read that the engine is based on the mustang V-8.... This could get interesting for FoMoCo.
I never wanted to change the world, i only wanted the simple things, if this is my stage i hope you can hear me screaming, i dont want this shit anymore......
