Everyone should play this demo! Call of Duty
« on: August 30, 2003, 07:04:01 AM »
WOW! You MUST try this demo out! It beats the crap out of Allied Assault, in the sound, graphics and especially the atmosphere departments in the game.

The demo is pretty short, you play as a 101st who has just landed (?), you make your way through a town and your mission is to destroy 3 Flak Panzer\'s who are mowing down your airplanes.
Some of the weapons I\'ve used in the demo, MP40, KAR98, M1A1 Thompson, M1A1 Carbine, Colt .45, P-08 Luger, regular US Grenade, German "potato-masher" Stielhandgranate, MG42 .. I saw a BAR1918 also but one of my squad members were using it. I\'ll kill him next time and take his weapon. :D

Yah, I played this last night too and I was VERY impressed.  It really duplicates that feeling of war with many people and it does it really well.  I\'ll definitely be picking this one up when it comes out.  Beautiful.

Oh and that "landing" you are referring to was the first 101st drop over Normandy just like the first mission for the 101st in Band of Brothers to take down the town of St mergles. :)

This is made by the same team that made AA.  Hopefully the sniping game remains intact. :)

I thought they were property of EA.. Good to see they left EA then. ;)

I think I have discovered every weapon in the demo now.

American weapons:
BAR
Colt .45
M1A1 Thompson
M1A1 Carbine
M1 Garand
US Grenade

German Weapons:
Mauser KAR98
P-08 Luger
FG 42 (Fallshirmjägergewehr) very nice with Scope.
MP 40
MG 42
Stielhandgranate

I also downloaded some videos from GameSpot.. Those Russian missions look very cool! :D
You\'re able to play as Americans, Russians and British.. Some of the battles include Stalingrad, Berlin and D-Day.

Finally downloaded for me, everytime it downloaded it was corrupt.. Stupid DAP.. Great demo, but i personally think it\'s on par to Mohaa. It has improved on graphics, sound etc but it still feels the same to me. :)

Full game is great, especially the Russian campaigns. Storming Stalingrad almost tops Normandy in Allied Assault. :)

I\'ve been whoring in multiplayer, haven\'t touched single player yet.  Don\'t like the sniping and maps as much as AA but it\'s growing on me.

Blah... Multiplayer CoD blows.  The single player game is excellent, but multiplayer plays like Quake, TFC, etc.  People can bunny hop and run 50 mph - and they claimed it was going to realistic.

Not to mention the game engine has been hacked and the there are so many cheaters playing it isn\'t even fun in the least.  The kill cam lets you see the depths of people\'s cheating - running around walls while shooting at another guy crouched behind the wall when there was no way he could have been seen.

The guys from 2010 were supposed to be behind the creation of this one, but I am thinking it was more like the guys who made RTCW.  MOHAA has its flaws and cheats, but it still holds the crown in WWII FPS.  I don\'t even count BF1942 due to it being a vehicle fest.

CoD SP was excellent, but MP was the biggest disappointment of the year in terms of this genre.  I guess with the way they made it the only thing they left out in MP was the shield power ups and BFG.

If you guys want a realistic WWII game, then download the Day of Defeat mod for Half Life. Yes, I know it\'s not the prettiest game engine, but DoD still rocks. And it\'s free.

Amen.  I\'ve been telling people that it DEFINITELY tops Normandy in Allied assault.  Granted, the PC version of the Normandy assault is pretty damn intense, but Call Of Duty is by far the best war FPS I\'ve every played.  Don\'t get the demo.  Just buy the game.

I think one thing that makes this game so incredible is the fact that they really managed to create a sense of real size, depth and distance with every level, which makes it feel so much more real.  I finished Call Of Duty and then played where I had left off on MOH Allied Assault and there was just no comparison.  The A.I. in COD is better and the level designs are far superior.  Storming Stalingrad and Red Square are excellent examples of getting that sense of being in a real battle.

Another unforgettable level is when you have to take over the apartment complex in the open snowy level and then defend it from soldiers and tanks.  The A.I. are battling each other all around you and it really gives you a sense of urgency and danger, knowing that the enemy are all coming up from the ground floor to find you and kill you while you and your allies are trying to keep them out.

Anyway, great game.  My only complaint that it was too short.  But I don\'t know if that\'s because it\'s literally just too short, or if it\'s because I played it every night for a week for several hours each night and enjoyed it so much that it just FELT short when it was over.  It definitely leaves you wanting more, but in a good way.
