If the electoral college didn\'t exist, every single politician would cater to Cliafornia and New York.  No one would give a rats ass about Montana because they would have about as many votes as a single burrow of NY.

^^^I don\'t see how it would be much different. The number of electoral votes is indirectly based on population.

BTW, Since when didn\'t the politicians cater to California, New York, Florida, etc.?

They still cater to the larger states, but there are probably 10-15 states that wouldn\'t have a single say in the matter based on population.
