It\'s post like this that make me think that GmanJoe is actually intelligent , but refuses to show us it.
He is the only one who has actually got the part where I said "I\'m no longer a Witness".
Sheesh.

Yeah it would feel odd perhaps but you won\'t know until you do. Besides you shouldn\'t disregard the social aspect of it. I for one couldn\'t stand spending time on my own if everyone else was celebrating.

The fact that you don\'t believe in God and do celebrate Christmas makes you more of a hyprocrate than anything.

Christmas is supposively related to God. I dont believe in God.

I think Christmas is just go celebrate mans good will, and give presents.

Honestly LIC; Get some drugs, your ****ing weird-

Being Buddhist I don\'t believe in a God, yet I still celebrate holidays that are originated by religions that are based on love and kindness.  I guess my family could celebrate Chanakhu (sp) but we don\'t for some damned reason.  Personally I like holidays for the fact that other people are friendlier on the whole, if I smile at someone I can usually get one back instead of a kick in the nuts.

I\'m not weird. I was raised in a religion that did not celebrate it. My family does not celebrate it and the fact that most peolpe think we need a day to give thanks, to give presents, to show love, is obsurd. You have all year and all your life to do those things. Why put aside one day? And I maintain that if you don\'t believe in God or Jesus, then you should have no right to the holiday. You can\'t have your convictions and not stand by them.

I for one, am not a Witness any longer, I do not believe in God - therefor I do not celebrate holidays. I didn\'t even celebrate my birthday, until a girl I dated got me to do it.

I don\'t feel odd. I find something else to do. I watched part of the football game this evening, then I came to work. Been here at DOE since 5:00 pm, will get out at around 7:00 am, running cable / setting up PC\'s / doin\' Windows updates / and various other things. Staying occupied keeps you for thinknig about it.
(*should be noted I don\'t work at DOE, I\'m here with Capcom who is the Net Admin*)

And finally, to address this post. Body modification and one\'s personal freedom to do so, is one of the many reasons I left the religion.

First of all;

Dont tell me my rights. I can ****ing celebrate it if I want, I dont have to believe in it.

Secondly; I dont believe in the God part. I believe in the joy of giving. Apparently you must have been abused as child or something- and you cant just get out of your negativity. When you see one of your relatives open up a gift, and the expression on their face sends chills down your spine, then youll know what its like. I suggest you get some help, because anyone who is as gloomy, critical, and just down right grumpy needs it. You have one life to live- why live it always looking down on things?

Lastly, just because I dont believe in any religion, does not mean I cant celebrate those holidays. My family is very religious, and when I am invited to celebrate, they know I will not pray at the dinner table. But I show my family support by going to the holiday gathering, and having family time.

Holidays were created for days of unusual happiness, and something to celebrate. If we had no holidays, days would really have no special meaning.

Um... so if there were no holidays there would be no reason to live? Poor you. :p

Personally I give a rat\'s ass about most holidays. The only holiday I "celebrate" is Christmas and it\'s a guilty pleasure of mine. I just love the atmosphere that time of year (and yes, I could care less about the presents). But I don\'t "celebrate" it in a religous way, I just enjoy the time.

PS. LIC IS NO LONGER A WITNESS!!!! Phew, I wanted to get that off my chest ever since the first guy in this thread concluded that he was.

PPS. If you n00bs had been here long enough, LIC\'s background as a Witness wouldn\'t have come as a surprise. :p
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAPETIME!

Thank God someone pays attention around here.
Thank you, Sammy.

And Spudz - for once I did not insult you and yet you get hostile.

Where once was I gloomy or critical of this holiday? I haven\'t been. Swidfi attacked me on me saying I\'m glad I don\'t celebrated , which was actually a joke by me calling it a \'weight calling holiday\', which was so obviously a joke. Then I explained why I did not celebrate the holiday. You called Witness people gloomy and I explained they wasn\'t. I also explained my belief that we don\'t need certain days to apperciate the people we have around us - that we should do this every single day. How is that gloomy or critical? I understand you don\'t like me - as I don\'t like you either, but at this point you are grasping at straws to find a conflict, where there is no conflict.

Thank you, drive thru.

The thing about Holidays are that we\'re so caught up in our daily grinding routine that we forget to be human and become more like machines. The Holidays gives most people something to look forward to and if it makes them treat each other better, then more power to it! And when the Holidays are over, they still have a new set of happy memories to keep them going!

This is by no means a religious debate. Just the argument over Holidays. LIC, it\'s cool that you\'re on your own but you still carry your family\'s creed in regards to Holidays. That\'s cool too. Take it one step at a time. One day, when you see your kids open presents by the Chrismas tree, you\'ll know what I mean.

I still recall a former co-worker ofmine who was a Witness. Wouldn\'t accept a gift from a consultant for all the hard work he did. The consultant was quite puzzled. Maybe he felt ashamed. In Japan, I guess they take denial a little more seriously than we do. I tried to tell my co-worker that it wasn\'t a Christmas gift or anything religious. But he insisted it was his right not to accept it. What can I say? Nothing. It\'s his right.

PS......no, I don\'t have kids. :)

It should be noted that if or when I get married  - if my wife wants to celebrate it and with the kids, that\'d be fine. I would not enforce my view on my wife or kids. It\'s not an enforcement thing. It\'s just my personal viewpoint at this time in my life - which some people like Spudz can\'t understand.

You told me what my rights are. I live in America, as do you. Dont tell me what to do. I find that one of the most insulting things, having some punk tell me what I can do, and cant do just because they say so. Dont tell other people their rights.

I understand what you believe perfectly. You just cant see that I celebrate Christmas, but dont believe in the reason.

Stop throwing shit around LIC, and just take it in. Honestly.

And I say that you\'re a hyporcrate for celebrating it and not believing in the reason.

Either way, this subject is dropped - because I don\'t want to close this thread.
