Thing is.....will the old man be able to get a stable home when he\'s out? That\'s the dichotomy of this whole thing : give him freedom....and he could be unhappy, miserable and end up homeless. Leave him in jail and we are violating his civil rights.

There is no way he will be able to adjust to freedom after being in prison all this time an even if he does  - his life is gone. The goverment stole the one thing that can\'t be given back.

Wrong movie, THX.  :p

"They insist the reason he got such a harsh sentence was because he fought with the victim -- a crime for which Allen was never charged."

Typical podunk southern justice.  A black man lays hands on a white woman, so they give him life for stealing a B&W television.  They should find out if Judge James Pou Bailey is still alive and get his ass on the hot seat too.

I think this story is a load of crap. He\'d get a slap on the wrist today worst 5 years in prison. Its just rediculous that he went to life for a B&W TV.

Really an unfair story.  I think it\'s better to be free even if he may not have the money to support himself than to be in jail.  Freedom is really really big.
