We inspired a big part of Lotr.

A whole lot of names are directly out of the icelandic language.

I thought it was the small group of (native) people in Sweden and not Iceland.

Denmark, The Faroe Islands, Norway and Sweden are all direct Viking decendants.

Icelandic is the same language the vikings spoke (the difference can be likened to medievil english and modern english, lot more formal).

Iceland and the Faroe Islands are the most direct decendants simply because we are so isolated, there\'s been a lot of racial mixing in denmark, norway and sweden.

And did I mention that the only source for info on nordic mytholigy and whatnot Snorra Edda is Icelandic.

Finland isn\'t completly Nordic, their roots are the same Hungary\'s people, some Bask place or something can\'t quite remember.

Tolkien took a lot out of the Snorra Edda\'s, Gandalf was mentioned in the Edda\'s for instance and Gimli is a name here in Iceland.

He took stuff out of the Kalevala and a few other books.

Nope, Russians and East Europeans (except for Hungarians) are Slavic, Nordic people are alive and well take it from a Scandinavian.

There are some relations, the Vikings just had to go over Finland to get to Russia, also Estonia and those countries are very Slavic (some differences though).

The Vikings were good conquerers. Its interesting to learn about the Vikings and their conquerings during medieval times. What happened anyway? Did they get their ass kicked and retreated to their homeland?

They turned Christian, at first just to trade with other countries say stuff like "hey I belive in the god fella and Jebus guy, so uhh sell this to me".

Iceland turned in the year 1000, Sweden was the last to convert around 1100 IIRC.

But after they converted, Norsemen was changed to "Evil".

Not only that but most of Scotland was settled by the Vikings, and many Scottish town still have Derivations of Viking names

Oban for example (mainly on the westcoast (where i live).

So this must explain why the Scottish have a fire’y temperament.
