TRON 2.0 opinions???
« on: December 15, 2003, 10:37:47 AM »
Just interested to know how many other people are playing this and how far into the game you’ve gotten.   Personally, I think this is one of the most unique FPSs I’ve ever seen.  The visuals are intense.  If you haven’t played it yet, definitely try the demo (http://www.tron20.net) ~ the light cycle races alone are worth getting the game for.  If you are playing it, what do you think so far?

Tron was a game before a movie I\'m pretty sure.  Old school Tron where you jumped across 3 discs and threw a frisby at the red dude.  And the motorcycle.

No, it was a Disney movie first.  Then they came out with the arcade game.  Even back then the arcade game was pretty cool, but it wasn\'t until recently that they had the technology to make a game that not only captures the essence of the film, but takes it to even richer depth.

ooseven, don\'t worry ~ the gameplay is definitely not GACK.  It takes some getting used to how it works to collect and implement special files/skills, etc. in the game, but that\'s what makes it unique from other FPSs.  Not to mention the visuals...

Looks like a hit or miss type design.  I have to see it in motion.

I stand corrected.  Is the frisbee game in it?

How does the Light Cycles part of the game work?  In the old arcade game, you looked at the cycles from overhead, which was hard.  In the movie however, the participants saw the game from within the cycle; a first person point of view.  I always thought that would make it almost impossible.  How can you figure out if you should make a turn into one of those spirals without knowing if it dead ends or not?

It isn\'t that hard to figure out where you are going Core.  The only problem is the AI is hard as hell!!!!  So yes, its pretty difficult!

In the new TRON, you can choose your lightcycle perspective ~ you\'re still seeing the match from the outside of the lightcycle, but you can choose a perspective anywhere from almost directly  behind the bike all the way up to looking almost directly down on it from overhead.  It is VERY hard, but fun at the same time.

Also, yes there are disc matches.  Has anyone here done the disc matches, lightcycle races or TRON deathmatch online?  If you\'re on XP and have broadband, you should download the patches and get in the online games;

TRON patch at Gamespy:   http://www.fileplanet.com/files/130000/132826.shtml
Tron patch at TRON.net:   http://www.tronupload.com/modList.asp?lCategoryID=5

Core, the free demo lets you try the lightcycle races:

It looks even more incredible in motion, btw.  Imagine some of those wide shots with people doing busy things in the background, vehicles whirring by overhead, lights blinking, ambient noise, etc.
