I\'ve encoded vids at 750kbps in divx that look better then that pic. But i\'ll try the nero codec anyway. :)

I thought WM9 was a form of MPG4

Nope, Window Media 9 is a different codec made by Microsoft team and his mammoth money than MP4.  Not sure who made MP4, but WM9 is a totally different codec.  Microsoft hired some of the well known scientists to made this codec and quite some money and time too.  The results is astonishing, if you ever watch Terminator 2 Extreme Edition, disc 2 contain WM9 playback in High defintion of 1080p with a bitrate of 9.8 Mbits per second or so.  Unfortunately, i didn\'t watch the WM9 HD version of it, but i heard you need like a 3 Ghz computer with at least 128 DDR video ram or something to make the movie playback smoothly.

I guess you are right.  I knew it was a hell of a compression scheme, but thought it was a form.  Definitely amazing.  I\'ve compressed some videos that end up so tiny you figure half of it was chopped off.

Mpeg-4 > WM9

WM9 was built from the ground up but it has a lot of hooks encoders don\'t like, such as its own embedded program you must use to make a file.  That and MS never updates the damn thing, I\'ve been using the same version for over half a year now.

I really hope Sony chooses H2.64 or another mp4 derivative rather than blocky mpeg-2.  I think a lower price may dictate the situation though. :(  MS has their own agenda and are charging less than half of what the Motion Joint Picture Experts Group is.  Something like $.49/disc rather than $1.30/disc.

The T2XE disc is a joke.  It\'s not even hi-def, something like 570p IIRC.

really? wow.  Yeah, anything but MPEG-2.  Come on, I am still surprised Sony/Panasonic still only support MPEG-2 as their HD-DVD Blu Ray.  As a consumer, we wants better format and MPEG-2 is so over 10 years old and newer format blow its out of the water.

the AOD HD DVD from Toshiba/NEC use all three formats, MPEG-2 and MPEG 4, and WM9.   Makes it a rather tough battles to watch as Blu Ray and AOD battles out on HD DVD wars.
