Goddamn "coolsearch"

Somewhere, I picked up a virus or something that changes my homepage in IE to "coolsearch". I delete cookies, history, etc, change it back to psx2central. Everything\'s fine, until I log off. next time I log on, there it is again! I\'ve looked for some odd program or file, and deleted some shit but nothing helps. I\'ve tried changing it back 15-20 times. Nothing works. Very insidious and annoying.

So I got firebird.

Have you tried running Ad-aware Chizzy, it sounds like you have some spyware in your registry somewhere.

Sometimes it takes drastic measures to make someone change away from IE, but it\'s always worth it.

Hehe just think of all the Dell owners that don\'t belong to a forum such as this that have all this spyware/viruses/adware eating up their system.

Chizzy:

Download, install, update, and run Spybot
Download, install, update, and run Ad-Aware

It is *very* important to update these programs with the latest defintions, otherwise it will leave stuff behind.  I can\'t count how many newbs kept complaining about the spyware after using these proggies but it was because they didn\'t update.

I used the newest update for adaware and I still have the sumbitch on mine too.  I\'m lazy and choose to leave my comp on standbye instead of turning it off.

I\'ve had that issue with IE, and I killed it using a combo of Ad-Aware, HijackThis, and general know-how.

I had the same issue again, but this time it was an adware virus. I ran Ad-Aware and HijackThis, used Trend Micro\'s free HouseCall virus scan, pin-pointed the parasite, and killed it.

You\'re gonna need to check what programs run at Startup in the Windows registry. That\'ll determine what level/strength of spyware we\'re talking about here. For example, the first time it happened to me it was just a registry file that was being auto-run at Startup. It was designed very simply to make my homepage and my Search page "default-homepage-network" or something like that. Once I removed the Startup entry and the REG file, no more hijacking.

No need to switch to an inferior OS to fix your problem. *kicks Capcom in the balls* ;)

I think this is what they call th\' start of a "Mac vs PC" thread. :D

No need for that, but hey.. if you\'re going to peddle your back-alley Steve Jobs-endorsed wares around here, you\'d best be ready for th\' verbal lashings of a Gates child.

Ironically the big Nintendo fan is not supportive of the original, quirky, innovative computer giant! That\'s right!

At one time, I thought you and I was brothers..No longer! I disown you!

OS X > XP
It\'s that simple.
:D

I was raised a Gate\'s child, but have found new worlds. Yes, 2K is a great OS , yes OS 9 sucked. OS X is great though.

Apple needs to make a nicer entry level computer. The $2,000 entry level PC is simply to much to penetrate the market.

What makes XP so inferior to 2K? I passed over 2K because 98SE served my gaming needs just fine.

XP offered a speed increase, so I took it. It\'s the successor to 2K, but they\'re almost identical once you strip away all the XP annoyances. (like the redesigned Start Menu and stupid default graphics)

Download CW Shredder - it works.

A small utility for removing CoolWebSearch (aka CoolWwwSearch, YouFindAll, White-Pages.ws and a dozen other names). Spybot S&D tends to forget essential parts of the hijack, so until it updates, you can just this to completely remove the hijack. Updated to remove the new variants once they come out.
Read my article with documentation on Coolwebsearch here.

Searching Google might help you in the future. ;)

Change is bad.
XP isn\'t so bad, but 2K was an all around great OS.

I keep saying I am going to buy a laptop and when I do it won\'t be an Apple due to the price, but if I do get one, I\'ll take XP off for sure and put 2K on it.

Change is bad. That\'s why I don\'t change boxers. It means something bad would happen.
