My New Rig
« on: January 19, 2004, 11:06:19 PM »
Just picked up a new computer.  Usually I build my own, but damned Compaq had such a great deal I couldn\'t pass it up.
Here are the basics;
3000+ AMD (Barton Core)
512 mb ram
80gb 7200prm hd
Onboard Video (will pick up atleast a 9600pro later on)
XP home installed
Modem, LAN and all the other basic stuff
I\'ll throw in my own DVD +/- burner
15" Flat Panel

all for around $550  shipped.

Sounds good.. except for the whole compaq thing.

I hate compaqs... but I hope you don\'t have any problems with yours.

I know Compaq has a bad rep, but I had one back in the day and now my Sister has it and no problems yet.  Anyways if something goes wrongified I\'ll deal with it when I come to it.  It\'s amazing what kicking and cursing at a computer can do ;)

if I was to buy a brand PC I\'d take Dell anyday over Compaq. Compaq is crap. Seriously.

Luckily I build my own rigs...

Compaq is what all of the non linear edit systems have gone to.  Pinnacle, Avid, etc. are all basing their systems on Compaq.

I need a new computer.  I am doing something now in after effects and an error message popped up and said:

"What in the fu*k do you think you are trying to do?  You have a week?  That\'s how long that would take!!  Bitch"
I wear a necklace now because I like to know when I\'m upside down.

I hear people say that but I have never know anyone personally who had a problem.  And if anything goes wrong, I\'ll fix it.

Ugh, a coupla years back when I was still in arts academy (1997-2001) ; when new student multimedia pc\'s were due, the board decided them to be Compaqs. Damn ! they were worst pieces of crap I\'ve ever worked on :o  They sucked at so many aspects, it\'s too long a list to elaborate on it now...
Anyway, that was Compaq PC\'s back then in 2000 - 2001... I wouldn\'t know how they compare today.

Btw... as for Dell, you might wanna check CGtalk.com on how the graphics enthusiasts think of Dell pc workstation\'s ; let\'s just say, they are not beloved there... lol

As for myself. I ordered and customized a rig myself, then had it built. I\'d say get a good case with PSU for starters. I got the Antec Sonata myself in December 03 with the built in TruePower 380 PSU. Very slick. Established PSU quality.

 Antec Sonata case review

further specs : P4  3,2 Ghz 800fsb, 1024mb Corsair DDR500 Twinx, PNY Quadro FX1000. Now running ; Maya 5.0, Cinema4D XL R8 and Splinter Cell. :thepimp:

Compaq merged with HP (or more likely bought out) in \'02 to due poor sales from a bad rep.  Their quality has msot likeyl gone up since then.
