For Christmas, I got:

R.Racing Evolution (http://www.racing-evolution.com/ ) ~ there are some new features in this one that I’ve wanted to see in a racing game for a long time, such as improved A.I. and in-game radio communications with the pit crew and rival drivers.  Some complain that it\'s not the same as previous games in the old Ridge Racing series, but I find this racer more enjoyable than other ones I played last year, such as Midnight Club 2.

Mario Kart: Double Dash (http://www.planetnintendo.com/mariokart/) ~ my friend and I used to play Mario Kart Battle on Nintendo 64 for hours on end.  I was looking forward to the new Battle maps.  I played the new Battle maps.  I returned MK DD to the store for credit immediately.  One of the biggest disappointments of the year, IMO.

NFSU (http://www.needforspeed.com/) ~ lots of car customization and superb racing graphics/effects… miss the cops-n-criminals tho.

So far, the only driving game I want to get next is Driver 3 (http://www.driver-3.tk/) ~ both Driver 1 and 2 were incredible, so there’s no way I’m passing up this one.  I\'ve learned my lesson tho ~ I\'m renting it first.

What the hell? You didn\'t even unlock all of the Battle Maps in MKDD and you sent it back?

My friend, I too was a fan of MK64 and SMK.. but I think MKDD\'s Battle Mode is even better. More modes, more maps (even though at least 2 of them are variations on "single flat surface") and much better multiplayer racing. You can do Grand Prix with 2 players, for crying out loud! (up to 4 if you do it with 2 co-op karts)

Some folks must be expecting too much from MKDD because it\'s everything MK64 was and more. Better gameplay, much better play control, better graphics, better courses. Why don\'t more people embrace MKDD? :( Nevermind the fact that you can play it online, which I have a few dozen times and despite it being a hack it lives up to the hype and makes me wish Nintendo would officially host a MKDD network.

Meh.

Anyways, I only bought a handful of racing games last year.. MKDD and F-Zero GX. (planning to play NFS:U and PGR2 this year) MKDD I love, obviously. It\'s not 100% perfect but I\'ve grown to think it\'s the best MK to date. F-Zero GX isn\'t my cup of tea (I like the wacky antics of MKDD more) but it\'s great anyways if you\'re willing to get skilled.

I\'ve had Motogp3, NFSU, Midnight Club II, Italian Job.

MotoGp3 is a good game but very difficult and very unforgiving for the novice racer.  One mistake and it\'s all over, and that\'s is just the dry races, in the wet forget about it.

The Italian Job and Midnight Club were fairly boring imo and I soon got fed up with them.  Midnight club seemed to get hard very quickly with the other cars making no mistakes at all. Very frustrating.

NFSU - I love this one the constant modifying and tuning of the cars adds to the replay value. Currently completed 72/120 races and unlocked most of the tuning parts. One of my favourite bits is the drag races, it\'s all about changing gear at the right time and knowing when to hit the nitrous to win the race.

I got R: Racing Evolution and I\'m enjoying it.  I rented PGR2 and bought R: Racing Evolution and I rather race with offical full race verson racers moving 60 frames per second than racing with stock looking cars moving 30 frams per second. This game reminds me of GT3 in a way. The tracks and cars looks detailed. I beat the story mode (Life Race) that has 14 chapters with 3 races in each chapter I think (Pro Race Driver <<<< R: Racing Evolution) in story mode.

I\'m now doing the Challange Life Race mode which you have to buy the tracks. 60+ tracks with all types of class races that you earn points to buy new cars. The unique thing about the perssure bar system above the opponents car is that it go\'s from blue, yellow, red and flashing red, and soon after, the opponent will spin out, and the radio chatter from the pit crew to opponents is great! Also by winning first in some races you will open new cars. So far I have only under 20 cars and there is about 80 to open in all. I\'m working on opening more cars now.

Here\'s some screens I took.

I love that part too!  It really is a cool racing game that really hasn\'t gotten as much attention as Mario Kart DD, which was a sore let down.

To answer your question, Blade, yes ~ I took MKDD back without unlocking the other battle arenas, which I have read were just as disappointing as the default arenas.  I mean, c\'mon... was there even ONE battle arena in the new Mario Kart that was as fun as the Block Fort battle arena in the N64 version?  Nintendo really dropped the ball on this one.  I just don\'t understand how they could be so lazy on the battle arenas.  That was the most fun for a lot of people in the N64 version, so they should have made a better effort for Gamecube.

more cool R:Racing screens;

I\'m sorry, buddy, but that is a knee-jerk reaction. :)

I\'d tend to agree that MK64\'s Block Fort was more intriguing than Block City, but that\'s about it. MKDD is the superior game in pretty much every other way. Oh well, at least I didn\'t send it back after playing it once..

It\'s slow with slow cars but using Class 1 or prototypes cars show some speed.
