iPod Mini, and various others...
« on: February 11, 2004, 05:08:26 PM »
After the breakdown of my latest mp3 player, I am in need of a new one.

My birthday is coming up, and my mom is willing to buy me one.

I was looking at the iPod mini, just because they have it in green (my favorite color), and its a decent amount of space (4 gigs).

But I dont know a whole lot about mp3/jukebox\'s.

Could someone suggest some, that are good? Anyone own an iPod?

I own an ipod!  It kicks ass too :p  swithces songs instantly, loud enough that you could plug portable speakers into, firewire, really thin, and looks great with the ADHD enhancing touchpads.

the battery life is good for now...ive had it for about a month now i think.  heres hoping it wont poop out on me..

I got an iPod about a month ago also. Got it for $300. I would pass on the mini and go for a 10GB model as they cost the same. Of course if size really is that important, then get the mini.

There\'s also a bunch of other HD-based MP3 player like the Nomad 2, Dell DJ, iRiver, yada yada.

If you buy the mini, you\'ll be wasting your money.  First of all, 4 gigs of data for 250 dollars is a lot of change when the regular ipod model, at 15 gigs, is a mere 50 bucks more at 300 dollars.  Basically, you\'ll be spending just about as much money for MUCH LESS in order to get a color of your choice.  I don\'t know about you, but if I want an mp3 player, I want space and I want variety.  4 gigs just isn\'t enough for that much cash.
Don\'t you ever touch my cape.

They\'re all way too expensive.  From the research I\'ve done though the iPod seems to be the best.

Well I looked around and apparently I was just thinking wrong when I thought it was cheaper.

Most likely I will be getting one.

Can you mod them? As in color aspects? Remove the case, and get that sucker shinin\'?

Anything else I should know about them? Models, etc.

The only reason I\'d consider getting the mini is the size and the navigation, having the play / pause etc buttons integrated into the scroll wheel makes it more convinient IMO.

But, hey for 50$ you 11gigs more space so the normal iPod is a good choice too.

How does the 15 Gig iPod charge?  I know the 20 and 40 come with the dock.

You must buy the charger I believe.

They are just trying to suck the money out of you.

Also; On the iPOD can you put more games on it? And write, for example a joke you heard or something?

It comes with a plug-in adapter that you plug into the iPod with the firewire cable. The dock is completely useless.

You can\'t add more games unless Apple decides to release some. You can store and read text files on the iPod. It will also hold .vcf files (address cards) and display them as well.

And if you do get one, make sure you have a 1394 firewire port on your computer. I didn\'t have one when I got my iPod, so I couldn\'t transfer my music until I bought one.
