Australian Grand Prix

Hmmm, this is a thread that might have been posting in an Automotive forum, if we had one....[/i]  :surprised

Is anyone planning to watch the first event of the Formula One season, the Australian Grand Prix?  Live coverage on US television begins at 9:30pm eastern time Saturday (3/6/04) on Speed Channel.

I have to say honestly that I\'ve never been a fan of F1 before, but I\'m willing to admit that I may have been missing something.  I don\'t really know the personalities of the teams, crews, or drivers, and that is usually what gives other motorsports their intriguing character.

Anyway, I\'m going to give it a try this season, and start out supporting BAR Honda like the Honda whore I am.  Other Honda owners I\'ve seen have referred to BAR as "Broke Ass Racing," in reference to their pitiful performance in recent years.  No matter, I always appreciate an underdog.  I also just as often despise the preordained dominant royalty of any sport, which in this case is Ferrari.    I hate competitors who are assumed to win before the contest begins, and I loathe bandwaggoners.

So is anyone going to watch?  What are your predictions?

I\'d like to see Subaru try to build an F1 engine.

The WRC is for Subaru what F1 is for Honda.

Now go away you silly drivers on gravel.  :p

I\'ll be watching it.

I\'ve been a fan of F1 for the best part of 20 years, and I pride myself on the fact that I have missed watching 2 races live in the last 12 years.

The last one I missed was the malaysian GP last year, I decided that it would be a good idea to go out I get pissed before the start of the race. I got in about 2AM and made my mind up to stay up & watch it. I sat in the armchair in eagerness for the start, only to fall asleep before the thing came on.

The only other race I missed apart from that was the 1993 canadian GP when I had to go to my cousins wedding. I was f0cking livid.

So yes, I will be watching it. Why even as I speak, I\'m waiting for the qualifying session to start.

Since the heady days of 90-91, honda have done jack-schitt in F1. It\'s been Renault & Ferrari since, with the odd intermittent Mercedes spell.

I\'ll be watching it, being a huge motoracing fan I never miss it. I also watch MotoGP, Superbikes, WRC, CART, IRL, BTCC...........

My prediction is for Michael Schumacher to once again dominate the proceedings. The Ferrari team have a great car that will take some beating.

GO Montoya, i do hope he wins this race but seeing that Ferrari have gotten the best times on the track i dont think he is :(, montoya was about  .5secs behind Barichello.

I hate Ferrari.  :rpissed:

How long will it be before someone figures out what they\'re doing to be so technologically superior?

At least Button wasn\'t lapped.
