Is this a really low amount of money?
« on: March 08, 2004, 09:15:01 AM »
There is this company down here in warren who is just opening. They are making seats for Ford. My aunt works in some job office and told me about this place last year around the last semester of school.

I never applied becasue I decided to stay up at school and go for the summer. As I remember the job only paid $10hr.

They said on the news that 10,000 ppl applied for the jobs only 600 were hired. I am just shocked that so many ppl are out of jobs and I can barely live off of 10 an hour I could not imagine supporting a family on such a small income. I was making 13.50 an hour and felt I was making too little.

Is this the average income for such jobs? I have no Idea. Just wondering.

$20,800 a year.  Its really low for my standards - but to some its ok.  All depends on your lifestyle.  For the area it was probably a good paying job.

You can make it on 20,800 a year but you may not live as comfortably as you\'d like to.  Personally, I am looking for a job after college envolving something to the tune of, Math, Physics, Computer Science, Microbiology, etc.  I hope to start at 50,000 min, and work my way up to 85,000 within 6 years of that date.  That\'s my ideal plan.

It\'s very possible though.  Programmers start at $50,000, and go up $5000 per year of experience.  My plan is similar to square_marker\'s.  Graduate from college and get a job in computer science.  I have heard that programmers in the gaming industry get paid less on average than other types of programmers, but I am not really concerned about the money so that\'s ok.  I just want to make it into the gaming industry!

Right now, I\'m making $7 an hour, plus 10% of the waitress\' tips.  So probably about $9 an hour, 17 hours a week; just baraly enough to stay alive.

It really depends on where you live.  My wife and I make over 100k which is fine for FLorida.  You take that salary up north and we wouldn\'t be able to afford half of what we can now.

I was listening to Dave Ramsey the other day and a dude was asking if he should be saving for a house or finish paying his car off.  He owed 12 grand on his car.  He and his wife combined for 52k per year.  they have 6 kids.  Dave actually told him to pay off the car, save 6 months salary for an emergency fund, then save for a house.  Hell, by that time the kids will be in college.
I wear a necklace now because I like to know when I\'m upside down.
