Ok computer gurus: How to install power supply?/
« on: March 12, 2004, 04:23:13 PM »
I just ordered a new power supply, and while looking at my old one I realized that there are like 30-40 wires coming from its arse end... So do I just jam them all in some slot or do they have to go to specific points?

they all come to a point in about 4 or 5 different plugs that go into your cd-rom, hd, floppy and so on.

your new PS will have all the wires allready attached and ready to go. You just need to plug it in.

No offense, but this reminds me of TechTV\'s \'The ScreenSavers\' or \'Call for Help\'. Why? Because they both feature people calling in with questions that are easy and common to us who are knowledgeable with computers, but confusing to the noobie\'s.

Seriously though, it\'s not hard to install a PS. However, if you don\'t know how or don\'t feel comfortable, find someone who does know and have them do it or guide you through it. That\'s my advice.
A prime example is I have never bothered with a water cooling system, but the PC I am in the process of building will be water-cooled, so I am goin to have Capcom help me install it, as he has previous experience.

water cooling is very basic.. you\'ll learn it pretty fast.. Just make sure your run the kit or whatever you buy outside the case for a few days first. Very small but cost effective thing to do.

As for installing a psu. My simple teaching method. Put it were it fits. Its really that simple. After you install a psu once you\'ll be fine.

Myu new computer is nothing special.... just needing something untill I can afford to REALLY get my dream system.

And yeah Vid, I actually know quite a bit about computers. I just don\'t really ever mention it. I guess whenever theres aa computer question theres always about 400 people that jump to answer and I don\'t really feel the need to say the same things they just did.

Of course I have my own opinions about shit like AMD vs. Intel and NVIDIA vs. Radeon... But it\'s kinda boring to me, the way I see it is computers are a means to an end.

I guess I\'m just waaaaaay more of a software guy than a hardware guy.

*shrugs*

Ok, the internet connection problem was my ISP just fartin\' around. Good thing I didnt go buy a NIC card.

As for the only problem at hand now, I do believe it is a power supply problem because of how it turns on, then dies off... One time it repeatedly kept automatically going off and on, desperately trying to remain powered, but ultimately it would die.

So this definately seems appropiate to label this as a PS problem.
