Express Camera - Any bad experiences?
« on: March 14, 2004, 08:03:56 AM »
http://www.expresscameras.com/cart/prodetails.asp?prodid=9223&start=1

This is the camera I want and the deal is pretty friggen cheap.  They are selling the camera body alone for 650 which is 200 bucks less than everyone else.

I can\'t find the company on Bizrate and was wondering if there was anything else I can do to find out about these guys.

Wow, did you read some of the reviews on resellerratings?  Scary stuff!  I guess the owners of express cameras really did figure out how to get rich on the internet, at least until the Feds close in.

Anyway, the digital rebel seems to be priced no lower than $900 - $950 at all cheap-but-legitimate online retailers.

Yeah.  The larger 8 megapixel cameras should be out more readily by June.  I may just wait.  These should drop a couple hundred by then.  I really need a camera though.

Eh. I use The Cannon G series. Pretty damn good for a digicam if you ask me. For real cameras, heh, I use an old Professional Minolta my father gave me.

Well I already have a Nikon f-100 for 35mm photos.  I\'m just tired of wanting to take pictures and not having film.

Lona gets her quarterly bonus first wek in May.  Maybe that\'s something we can do.

No built in flash, 3 megapixel, price.  Three chip is nice, but to have to lug around a flash with me everywhere would be a pain in the butt.

One of the coolest things about owning a Canon is that you get to use the EX series flashes.  I had a Canon Elan IIe, and I think I used the built-in flash about 2 times in five years of ownership.  It didn\'t have the illumination power or flexibility (bounce, swivel) of my external EX flash.  In my opinion, built-in flashes just suck in most cases.  Flat looking images, red eye, battery drain, SLOW recharge, there are many drawbacks.

The way I see it, if you\'re buying a digital SLR, you\'re already committed to owning a larger camera.  The main reason is to use interchangable lenses.  That means you\'re going to be carrying even more with you; a body + lenses.  Might as well buy a slightly larger bag, and carry a flash as well.  Otherwise, all your flash photos will have that flat bland look the point-and-shoot crowd is so accustomed to.

Well that\'s a big reason why I would really like to look at Nikon as well.  Shit I don\'t know.  I go back and forth all the time.  I have a real nice flash with the Nikon camera.

And I like having the built in flash for emergency uses.  Normally I as well would have a full size flash.  But built ins are great for fill around the eyes if you are outside as a quick fix.

I don\'t know about the flashes, but its 3  1/2 megapixels per Chip.   That\'s a total of 10.5 megapixels if 3 Chips included.  Yeah, the picture total megapixels are still 3.5 megapixels, but it a true limit of 3.5 megapixels.

Unlike a single chip say 6 megapixels,  you probably get like 2 megapixel total   because how the three colors is align in a single chip.

here is the picture of the single chip.

Yeah, I saw it.  The resolution of the final pick is quite a bit less than the res of the 6 megapixel.

I haven\'t had time to read it yet though.

How is Sigma for a Camera?  Haven\'t heard the glass is all that great compared to Canon.

I think its true Sigma len or image sensor isn\'t as good as Canon.

But so far, I think only Sigma is the only company that make 3 Chips.

If Canon does make a 3 Chips, then I think it  would look better than Sigma and maybe even price competitive.

So, if that\'s the case, maybe trying Canon Rebel or the 8 mpixels you are looking for maybe a nice choice?...
