NFL Adopts Penalty for Celebrations

By BARRY WILNER, AP Football Writer

PALM BEACH, Fla. - NFL owners adopted a 15-yard penalty for excessive celebrations Wednesday after being embarrassed by Joe Horn\'s hidden cell phone trick and Terrell Owens\' end-zone autograph.

The penalty will be in addition to fines previously in place for choreographed and multiplayer celebrations.

The infractions are considered unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. The yardage will be marched off from the spot at the end of the previous play or, after a score, on the ensuing kickoff. If the infraction is flagrant, the player will be ejected.

"The players know they will be hurting their team," Jets coach Herman Edwards said.

The vote was 31-1, with the Raiders the lone dissenter.

I totally disagree with that.  The idea that more than one player can\'t celebrate is awful.  I mean, that takes away some of the best endzone celebrations that weren\'t over the top at all.  No players giving eachother the mile high salute, or something like that?  Awful.  God I hate the NFL.

They are so retarded. Unsportsmanlike conduct...what kind of BS is that really???

I can understand after every tackle as some guys do cuz hell, it\'s their f\'n job. But its 4th/inches and goal...some linebacker stops the back. Damn right he can call his momma if he wants....

Not like the game isnt delayed enough as is, the players little moments dont stop a thing. That or they are trying to protect the feelings of some of the bigger pussies out there.

Maybe they should tape the players mouth so they don\'t tease the other team...That rule is so much bullshit. They are slowly taking the fun of the game away, might as well put a limit on how hard you can hit a guy. Or make the players stop making any kind of emotional expressions and turn them into senseless emotionless zombies.

Stupidest idea ever.
Don\'t try to confuse me with what you call  facts, my mind is already made up.

Oh yeah, continuing from my last post, I disagree with this, and as a wise man once said, "Football is the best reality TV".

I love the drama...

End zone celebrations is a part of the sport! It\'s fun when your team gets a touchdown as you cheer along with them at home.

I hate how they have dumbed down the human element of the game.  Sucks that the players can\'t get excited after big plays for fear of getting penalties.  It\'s ridiculous.

But pulling out a pen or a cell phone is excessive.  That actually shouldn\'t be tolerated.

I could have sworn luckee first said in his initial post that he loved it when Barry Sanders would just hand the ball over to the ref after a touchdown....
