Major Computer Problems

#@%*!

Okay, when I start up my computer (Some standard Gateway, Windows 2000) it gets to the "Starting Windows" screen, with the big windows logo, and the small blue bar at the bottom.

The bar gets to the very end, and then it freezes. I left it on for 3 hours, to see if it eventually ever did start up, and it didnt.

In order for me to get it to turn on, I have to restart in Safe Mode, then restart from Safe Mode to Normal.

I have run windowscfg or whatever, and unclicked all of the boxes, but it doesnt help. They usually end up resetting themselves anyway.
Think for yourself. Question authority.

Try removing devices. Say your nic and sound card one by one and attempt to boot. If it is intergrated then disable them in the bios one by one. If the device happens to be bad. Replace and enjoy. If that does not work. The easiest thing may be to put in the cd and re-install with the upgrade option. Then re-apply each service pack one by one. Also I have found if you do use the windowsupdate site. Then avoid using their drivers listed. Stick with the manufacturer for drivers.

It would not hurt to check the event viewer before you try anything. See if anything has failed and then start there.
