Yeah, I love Sony and all, but It would have been nice if they had included some of the features that the early promotions of the HDD showed us.

my thing is why introduce this thing so late in this generations cycle? the new systems are right around the corner & hopefully ps3 will come with a harddrive bulit in. they just should have canned it..final fantasy is not going to sell a million harddrives..

How many games utilized the hard drive for Xbox? And why won\'t it be in the neXtbox?

Practically all of them?
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

seeing how x box can have built in 8 GB HDD, It would be cool if ps2 have like a small fraction of it like 1 GB or mabye less if cost is their concern....
because 1 GB and say maybe 512 MB is still a lot more than 8 MB memory card.  With that much, i think it quite enough to speed up videogames and do stuff that you see on XBOX...

So, i agree its late that ps2 HDD finally hit the store and pricey too.

But see with only a gig of HD space, you could only dl so many songtrax and updates for certain games. And if you left so of those on there then how much room would be left for streaming information? I dont know how much info is being stored and taken by Xbox games already but with only a gigm you dont have that many options.

^^^

hello, its still better than nothing!
how about just compressed the songs into mp3 or wma or something so it can fit, you can added music track to the ps2 hdd, but it will be compressed on the fly into mp3/wma...leaving no option opens for uncompressed music data....
well mabye some audio data compression like
192 kbits, 224 kbits, 128 kbits, and 384 kbits....

Again, having 1 GB of HDD is still better than nothing.  and adding music tracks is just optional, 1 GB is useful for other things like speed up the load times, and maybe other flexibility....shrugs...
