Im a little ashamed of myself. I was watching Saving Private Ryan and I thought it was cool to see men explode. Why do people like to watch other people explode or get there butts kicked? Its a mystery. If someone gets shot in the head in a movie its like "yeah! alright! Cool!"

Why is that?

Becasue of evolution - our basic animal impulses are sex, violence etc and doing whatever we can to survive in the world. A little outdated these days but thats basically where the feelings come from.
These days we have evolved to control the impulses by using a part of our brain that i cant remember the name of but basically it controld these basic instincts so we dont just go and kill someone we dont like.

Like Sex.. Violence SELLS !

Classic Example ...Steven Seagal

I mean No-one in their right mind would actually go an pay good money to see a Steven Seagal film purely for the acting.

sadly, it\'s because you\'re desensitized to violence

a man could get  his head blown off in front of you, and you would probably have the same response "cool"

However, there is a similar natural response to real life violence, such as humans experience on the battlefield.  My understanding is that a typical feeling among soliders when a comrade is killed might be "better him than me."  It\'s not that they take pleasure in someone\'s death, but just that they\'re grateful for being alive.

It\'s a normal response, but our culture (or maybe the military culture) requires us to supress it.

Its because an average person doesnt see a human body become dismembered. When that happens, the shock value proves "worthy". Its beginning to lose its touch though.
Think for yourself. Question authority.

I dont really think its "worthy." I dont think people would think it was kool if you saw all the gory details of certain things. For example: Somebody gets into a bad car accident in a movie and in real life. The person in real life or in any case, would have injuries that look much worse than say a stub of a neck after somebody\'s head gets ripped off.

seeing all kinds of veins and slimey shit fall out of sombody is not kool at all. Maybe its just me but if somebody finds that kool or funny, they then are stupid and need help.

I found Fight Club to be cool with some of their fight scenes.  I don\'t know why but when I play Manhunt I think it\'s cool to jam a crowbar into someone\'s neck...but I\'m not gonna go out and try it like some jackasses do.
