Iraq changes controversial flag

Iraq\'s US-appointed Governing Council has modified the new national flag after criticism that it looked too much like Israel\'s.

Like the version announced on Monday, it is white with a blue crescent and has two blue stripes along the bottom, with a yellow stripe between them.

However, the stripes and crescent are now a darker shade of blue.

The Governing Council\'s Massoud Barzani said it was important to replace the flag of Saddam Hussein\'s regime.

"We cannot raise the flag of a party that committed many crimes against the Iraqi people," he said.

But he stressed that it would only be "Iraq\'s flag for the coming months until a permanent flag is chosen".

The new design\'s crescent represents Islam, while the blue lines are meant to be the Tigris and Euphrates rivers and the yellow strip stands for the Kurdish minority.

I can see why they would change the flag. I guess it is for the better, psycologically for the people. It signifies that Saddams regime truely is dead. I\'d like to see the temporary flag.

They should make it just like the American flag that way maybe ooseven can get so excited and blow an artery in his neck and die!

True that. There are a couple countries that mimic the American flag. I\'m too lazy to look them up right now though.

Like Russia for instance, no longer have the red flag with the yellow hammer...

Russia now change to Red, blue, and white 3 strips flags that look like France.

You say copy U. S. flag, do you mean Britian, United Kondom, I mean kingdom, Australia, blah blah blah...

I just hope it is as temporary as they say it is. Maybe the people should decide what they want to represent themselves.

Very true. As conservative as I am, I don\'t feel we should be forcing our government on them. We are basically setting up a government like ours and that is what\'s pissing a lot of people off. I think we should just have advisors to help the Iraqi government officials and guide the government and keep our troops in there until a strong military can be established. I know it doesn\'t make any sense but I just got back from SATs.

Whoevers idea it was to make it blue and white in the first place must be a complete moron. Thats ALMOST as bad as making it red white and blue.

Because the iraqi people hate the US more then Israel, but they sure as hell hate Israel too.
