You dont pay extra for FXI.FXI is an extra with the HDD.You dont pay more for the HDD becuase of FFXI.
Its free with it.But Squarenix gains from the monthly fee you pay in order to play the game online.

Explains how FFXI and HDD cost $99.99 if you don\'t pay extra?

I think FFXI alone cost $49.99, and HDD cost another $50...

There must be a different reason.I ve read before (not from one source only) that you dont pay for FXI.There must be a different reason.Probably because is regarded as a product of luxury.I dont know.
This has been asked before and thats what was answered by Sony. The HDD wont be sold seperately because there is no need too.

So the standard price of the HDD is $99 regardless?  And it would be useless to try and sell FFXI since everyone who has the capablity to play it has it?  I still feel like I\'m getting jipped here.

I guess so.There have been other people like you asking for a stand alone HDD also but thats the excuse they got.FFXI is only sold with the HDD and with every HDD.
Many people feel that way.

But when I was in Dubai I saw the huge HDD package shown also in IGN costing around 65-75 pounds which is pretty cheap for a european price. But the strange thing is that my eye caught another package somewhere in the corner exactly the same size as the HDD (not the oversized HDD package) costing around 45 pounds only, displaying FFX1

You know what it is? It\'s a marketing scheme by Sony, because they know, by itself the HD has no support what so ever and is a extremely useless add-on. So, how do they sell it? You bundle it with a widely known franchise.

But thinking about it, the memory card is more ridiculously expensive.

I remember when I first bought PS2 memory card for $35, tax not included yet with only 8 MB...quite expensive..sony sure knows how to make money out of their software and acessories.

Now, Sony has drop the price of the memory card down to $25, but still I find it a little expensive for 8 MB.  But still reasonable than PSX memory which only have about 150 Kbytes and 15 slots but sold for $15.
