They\'re Japanese schoolgirls actually, but no matter.

Anime is very subjective.  Mature anime is fine, but there are plenty out there, much like some of the stuff Disney and (all of) Pixar does is just that.  Just the same, however, I would like to reccommend Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies, and Macross Plus (movie or short 4-part series, whichever is more your thing).  I also heard good things about Tokyo Godfathers.

Anime spans entire series however and many can be picked up now over bittorrent that are fan-subbed and have yet to be licensed.  There is definitely quality anime to watch out there other then the short two hour DVD movies you seem to be looking for.  I\'ll open that up if you want to hear any reccommendations of those, but I won\'t bother if you\'re not even familiar with bittorrent.

[Edit] -- You can download like three or four of the story parts of the Animatrix off thematrix.com site to see if you like it.  I don\'t really reccommend the DVD as such as it\'s one of those videos you watch once and forget about it with the exception of the Second Rennaiscance which is up for download on the official site.
Don\'t you ever touch my cape.

Spirited Away is my favorite anime

As far as action goes I still haven\'t seen anything more stylish and fun as Ninja Scroll.  Can anyone name one that beats it?

ps- honorable mention for Fist of the North Star.  Reminds me of the Matrix a lot, minus all the goth type outfits ;)

I liked the Record of Lodoss War series.. it\'s a bit different.. more like medieval times. Metropolis is pretty good, Spriggan, Bastard, Cowboy Bebop, Blood the last vampire... lots of good stuff, but it all depends on taste.

Anime, even "mature" anime, has so many different styles, that you have to watch many different animes to figure out what you like.  I like some of the \'kids\' anime too, Castle in the Sky is a disney anime, that I rather liked... it\'s made in the spirited away style.

Cowboy Beebop is good stuff IMO.... But yeah, im not really "into" anime as much as these other guys. And what\'s that one I see on cartoon network now with the wolves? I only saw one episode but it looked decent.

Where do you all get yer anime and hear about it?

I\'d be interested in buying some more anime.

oh and FLCL is pretty good too heh.

Dragonball Z?  I used to love that show when it was in its prime on Cartoon Network (1999) but I came to realize every new plot is the same.

I still think Vegita is one of the coolest anime characters around.

Toriyama hit a lull with the Buu saga...that shit got old QUICK.

Vegeta...what a badass. Him and Picollo were my two favorites, until of course they started making Picollo into a bystander, which blew. Before that, he was a badass.

See Yuz.
What do Kerry Wood, Mark Prior, Matt Clement, and Carlos Zambrano have in common?

They\'re the pieces to the next great pitching rotation of our time, what else?
