Some of you probably know of the great WWII mod for UT2k4, its called "Red Orchestra". I downloaded it yesterday and so far I have had a great time with it, in fact I think its one of the better WWII games I have played (maybe not as good as Call of Duty, but it sure beats Allied Assault multiplayer.).
It takes place on the Russian front (for now at least), so you can only play as Germans and Russians.
The most famous weapons are available+, MP40, MP44 (STG44), K98, Luger hand gun, P38 hand gun, PPSh41, Mosin Nagant as well as the MG34 which has to be deployed in order to fire, so no running around shooting that thing (a nice feature is that you are able to replace the barrel on the MG34 when the old one wears out.)
EDIT: I forgot to mention that there is a limit to how many automatic rifles each side can use.. For example, when the game starts you first choose sides, Allies or Axis.. Then you choose a class, Gruppenführer (Group leader), Schütze (marksman) for example. There can only be a few Gruppenführers on the german side, these guys are also armed with MP40\'ies, an handgun and two grenades.. The Schütze on the other hand has an unlimited number of "slots", because they are the most common soldiers, they are also light armed, only a K98 (you can mount a bayonet if you wish) and two hand grenades.. There are also other classes, SS-Machinegunner, Sniper (only on a few maps I think) and so on.
This system makes the game much more interesting (and prevent it from becoming a Quake slaughter fest, see Allied Assault for example).. You need storm troopers to take buildings, as the bolt action rifles are not so good to storm with, and an Machinegunner can provide covering fire (so far on the levels I have played there is only one slot for the machine gunner.).
Today when I played only 2 servers were up, I think the game deserves more attention than that.
