There seem to be a lot of people out there that think if it\'s great for videogames then it\'s the end all, be all solution.
If you are refering to the AMD chip there processors perform better with the majority of major software applications. There is little to no benefit using Intel for 3D Animation anymore. The majority of the major apps run better on AMD. spec.org has a whole suite of Maya related tests that have Opteron and FX spanking the living daylights out of Intel.
3D Studio Max is no longer better suited for Intel processors anymore either. The latest AMD chips win there as well.
Even cinema 4D, long an Intel favored benchmark tips to AMD. 3 out of the 4 major cinebench tests favor AMD.
Also----
MPEG encoding has tipped in favor of AMD processors.
DiVX encoding now favors or is so close within the range of error that Intel is no longer a clear winner
Audio applications like Digidesign, Steinburg, Samplitude and others now favor AMD processors.
Most games favor AMD.
Non Linear editing systems perfer AMD.
Compositing apps like Digital Fusion, After Effects, Combustion, Nuke, and others perform better on AMD processors.
Scientific applications favor AMD.
In fact, with the exception of a few synthetic benchmarks, that have little real bearing on real world performance, most applications are within a plus or minus range that would be considered equal or better than Intel.
As mm would say: AMD
> Intel
