The controversy over Michael Moore\'s Fahrenheit 9/11 just won\'t go away. The film, which is being advertised with the strapline "Controversy? What controversy?", has been rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America, meaning no one under 17 can see it. Distributors Lions Gate Films and IFC Films, opening the film next week, are appealing against the decision. The rating came partly because the film shows images of US soldiers abusing Iraqi prisoners, images Moore says he had long before the scandal erupted. He told Associated Press he kept quiet because he thought he\'d be accused of "just putting this out for publicity for my movie".
Anger at Moore is building up, too. Pro-military lobby group Move America Forward is campaigning to "Stop Michael Moore from profiting in his attacks on America and our military"; Michael Wilson is making a documentary called Michael Moore Hates America; and the website http://www.moorelies.com is out "to expose America\'s fakest pseudo-muckraker".

Meanwhile, in the United Arab Emirates, the film is being offered the kind of support it doesn\'t need. According to Screen International, the UAE-based distributor Front Row Entertainment has been contacted by organisations related to the Hezbollah in Lebanon with offers of help. All in all, Tony Blair must be relieved that Moore is not going to make a film about him; Moore rebuffed the rumour in a message on his website headlined: "Sorry to scare you, Tony. Michael Moore was just kidding."

You could make the case, after reading this review, that USA Today\'s Walter Shapiro is no fan of Fahrenheit 9/11:

Despite all the hype and Moore\'s undeniable comedic talents, Fahrenheit 9/11 is a profoundly disturbing movie that struck me as far closer to heavy-handed propaganda than to art. Does anyone seriously believe, as Moore suggests, that the United States invaded Afghanistan primarily to pave the way for a natural-gas pipeline?

Invade a country to build a pipeline that could never possibly be secure?  We can\'t even secure the oil pipelines in Iraq, let alone build one and keep it intact in Afghanistan.

Moore is a peice of crap, but the reason I won\'t see the movie is not because I hate him - it is because it is propaganda nothing more.

i finally saw his columbine film...it\'s a very interesting look..he was a little over the top when it came to interviewing that guy with the gun rights people,..but overall i thought it was a decent flick..i don\'t know why people are hatin\' on him all he did was tell some of the truth\'s about america,..but since some here like to think our s**t don\'t stink i can see why some might hate him...

Bowling for Columbine is fiction that attempts to pass itself off as a documentry.  The editing in it as almost as bad as the editing on that reality show The Restaurant (if any of you have watched that you know what I mean).  He manipulates interviews through the HEAVY use of editing.

The Willie Horton ad that was used by Moore in the movie has many problems with it... here are two.

"Fact: Apparently unsatisfied with splicing the ads, Bowling\'s editors added a subtitle "Willie Horton released. Then kills again."

Fact: Ben Fitz also noted that Bowling\'s editors didn\'t bother to research the events before doctoring the ads. Horton\'s second arrest was not for murder. (The second set of charges were aggravated assault and rape)."

The NRA and the KKK the same organization?  This what Moore implies, but the fact is that far from the truth.

"Fact: The Klan Act and Enforcement Act were signed into law by President Ulysess S. Grant. Grant used their provisions vigorously, suspending habeas corpus and deploying troops; under his leadership over 5,000 arrests were made and the Klan was dealt a serious (if all too short-lived) blow.

Fact: Grant\'s vigor in disrupting the Klan earned him unpopularity among many whites, but Frederick Douglass praised him, and an associate of Douglass wrote that African-Americans "will ever cherish a grateful remembrance of his name, fame and great services."

Fact: After Grant left the White House, the NRA elected him as its eighth president.

Fact: After Grant\'s term, the NRA elected General Philip Sheridan, who had removed the governors of Texas and Lousiana for failure to suppress the KKK.

Fact: The affinity of NRA for enemies of the Klan is hardly surprising. The NRA was founded by former Union officers, and eight of its first ten presidents were Union veterans.

Fact: During the 1950s and 1960s, groups of blacks organized as NRA chapters in order to obtain surplus military rifles to fight off Klansmen."

I could go on and on... but why bother others have pointed it out long before me.  Moore is a liar and a hypocrite.  I also find it funny how he had evidence of the prison abuse scandal, yet kept it quiet for some very questionable reasons.

giga that\'s all good & well,..and i don\'t dispute it..i said SOME of the truths..like i said i felt he was a lilltle over the top when it came to the nra(i said guns rights,. but that\'s what i meant) some of the stuff in it i didn\'t totally agree with him on and some stuff he left to your own discretion..some of it he was dead on...

But the thing is he tries to pass his films off as documentries and they are fiction.  I do have a very big problem with that.

Spinning the truth and omitting pieces of information can paint a whole new picture.

MOORE:  Actually, I have found one typo in the theatrical release of the film. It was a caption that read, "Willie Horton released by Dukakis and kills again." In fact, Willie Horton was a convicted murderer who, after escaping from furlough, raped a woman and stabbed her fiancé, but didn\'t kill him. The caption has been permanently corrected on the DVD and home video version of the film and replaced with, "Willie Horton released. Then rapes a woman." My apologies to Willie Horton and the Horton family for implying he is a double-murderer when he is only a single-murderer/rapist. And my apologies to the late Lee Atwater who, on his deathbed, apologized for having engineered the smear campaign against Dukakis (but correctly identified Mr. Horton as a single-murderer!).

Moore didn\'t bother to post a response to the NRA / KKK connection, and I agree that he didn\'t need to bother.  If you\'ve seen the movie, you know that portion was presented in a CARTOON segment, along with a lot of other absurd and humorous dialog.  I wouldn\'t even say it was "implied" as most critics want to believe.  This is an area where simply reading a trascript does not communicate the meaning.  You people who have never seen the film don\'t have a complete picture of what you\'re arguing about.

I have seen the damn film (I am glad I used a free rental on it as opposed to actually paying for it - considering this is the south and it was a Friday night about the only new release at the time that wasn\'t checked out was that movie) and yes he did imply it even though it is only a cartoon.  The whole film is portrayed as a documentry is it not?  I definitely felt like I was watching a propaganda film like I am sure F911 will as well.
