It\'s called the HDD Loader. It allows you to rip games on to your HDD to create a saved library. It\'s a cool device because it makes the HDD more useful but I\'m sensing that there\'s going to be some major piracy issues.

Here\'s the link:
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/525/525491p1.html

I kinda want one. Nothing makes me feel better than splurging cash on new toys.

We attached a 5400 rpm 40GB Maxtor drive to the Network Adaptor and slid both inside a PS2

If I understood correctly...these guys ay IGN attached a HDD other than Sony\'s and made it compatible with the help of the HD loader?

no I don\'t think so. This article is actually the follow up to their initial HDD Loader article. I think in the first one they state that it works with the ps2 HDD.

I mean it kinda has to be. Otherwise how else are you going to play the games.

oh crap hold the phone. I just reread the article to doublecheck. I think you might actually be right. This right here confirms what you were saying:
"We attached a 5400 rpm 40GB Maxtor drive to the Network Adaptor and slid both inside a PS2. After that, it was just a matter of putting the HD Loader disc in the tray and starting it up."

Wow now I\'m confused by my own post. I\'m gonna go to the HDD Loader website to see what teh deal is. This thing is crazy if it can make any HDD compatible.

1. The HD Loader enables you to put Games on a regular IDE HDD. That means many IDE 40 - 120 GB HDDs will work with it. After you put your games on it you can play them from the HDD.
2. HD Loader does not work with DNAS and a few other games (see Homepage for details)
3. No, you can´t use it as a "Memorycard"

(this is only one Page for HD Loader, there are some others)

You can use the Sony HDD as a mc archiver. I cleared all 4 of my full mc\'s and put the saves on the Hdd.

When you need the save back just copy it back over.

(Same with PSone saves)

i recieved my copy this morning, so far i\'m impressed with it, i installed a 120gb maxtor drive which it detected straight away and took about 90 seconds to format

installing games can take upto 30 minutes for a dvd based game over 4gb such as vice city but the average installation time seems to be around 20 minutes, installed games load alot faster although my ps2 is old and struggles with alot of games especially if the disc isn\'t in good nick so the loading time will seem alot quicker on my ps2 compared to one with a better laser

on the piracy thing, it\'s possible to rent a game and install it to the hd then play it without the original disc and i must admit i will keep games on the hd for a few days after i\'ve taken the disc back, i always rent games before i buy them and if i\'m unsure about a game i\'ll rent it a couple of times to help make my mind up if it\'s worth buying or not, the hd will save me a few £\'s on rentals but if i like a game then i buy it anyway
in the hands of serious gamers i can\'t see a problem with it as most respect and support developers who make good games but it wouldn\'t suprise me if sony tries to get it banned because of the possibilty of copying games

it\'s a shame you can\'t use it to store mc saves but i already have a xport2 so it doesn\'t bother me too much:)
