Just wondering if you had to purchase the sony endorsed HDD with the Final Fantasy package.  I mean, is that the only way to get the HDD?  Are there any 3rd party HDDs that will work with the PS2 so I don\'t have to fork over a smooth $100?

You don pay extra for FF if I remember well.Square gains revenues from monthly fees

The harddrive was actually going to be delayed, the one that is release is actually not the final sony release.  The software was the issue and what comes with the current drive is crap.  The only thing it is really for right now is FFXI - so instead of delaying the PS2 northeast release of FFXI - they package it along with the drive and release it for retail sale.
