American Chopper: Interesting article

Pretty interesting article from Advertising Age.  These guys stepped into a gold mine.

I bet the shop that got dissed must be hating life.

I just couldn\'t believe how much money they make in T-Shirts and crap.  10X\'s the money they make in bikes?  Wow..

I don\'t watch the show anymore.  I got sick of how the details of the construction process took a backseat to the "argument of the week" between Paul Sr. & Paul Jr.  Also, their bikes are complete crap.  Those guys have no taste whatsoever.  If you watch the Biker Buildoff show instead, you\'ll see builders who have 10X the skill and taste of those idiots on American Chopper.

I actually prefer shows about cars though.  I find "Overhauling" with Chip Foose and "American Hot Rod" with Boyd Coddington to be much better programs.

American Hot Rod is by the same people and is the exact same show as American Chopper.  Just insert cars and a different idiot.

Overhauling has horrible hosts, but Chip Foose is friggen amazing.  He wins the riddler award pretty much whenever he enters.

American Chopper now has a water jet and they are able to do some pretty nice stuff now.  It\'s also shot in HD now which is pretty sweet.   The two Pauls have hardly even appeared this year so far.  Now they have their cousin or someone yelling at Vinny and Mike instead of Paul Sr.

Yeah, I know American Hot Rod is the same formula, but somehow it\'s just better.  The cars are better, and Coddington has better taste than the Pauls.  Also, they spend more time describing the fabrication, and it doesn\'t seem to be such a simple bolt-it-together process like they do on Am Chopper.

Every bike they turn out at OCC seems to be the same, except for whatever fins and crap they weld on, and what color they paint it.  Nothing mechanically interesting or unique.  It\'s always the same step by step process.

Biker Build Off is more focused on the bikes while American Chopper is a reality show based in a bike shop, I like both but they aren\'t even comparable in my eyes.  As for the bikes;

Matt Hotch>Arlen Ness>Billy Lane>Indian Larry>Chica>OCC> everyone else including Jesse James
but just for my tastes

for my tastes, if I were to buy a bike and money was no object, I\'d rather have a bike built by Chica than OCC or West Coast Choppers

Please give me a break.  Monster House is the WORST of all.  They do the shoddiest work of any reality show, with the exception of the junkyard shows.

Buying a bike that was built in a month or a week is one thing, but would you really want to live in a house that was remodeled in a week?  I\'d be willing to bet everything they built falls apart one month after installation, and has to be totally redone.

Trading spaces does far shottier work than monster house.

I like monster house although I don\'t really learn from it since 90% of the stuff they do I would never want.

Extreme makeover house is pretty amazing what they do.

I saw that they are in a bit of a pickle though because these people should be filing the remodel jobs as a gift on their taxes and pay standard game show style of taxes.  IT income tax.

The producers though are working their way around, possibly illegally, this and giving these people these huge house makeovers for free.
