MSN + Browser Hijacker = f0cking annoying.
« on: July 16, 2004, 09:41:03 AM »
I don\'t know why, but everytime I come onto the net, immediately my browser window gets directed to msn.com, then after a few seconds, a hugh pop up opens that takes up the whole screen, and it\'s pissing me off.

Actually, I know why it\'s happening, it\'s because the tw@s at microsoft keep fixing it so their site put this shit on my computer when I visit them (as far as I know, they could be putting it on other sites as well, as I seem to be getting it all the time now, even if I don\'t visit their sites).

The way it used to be, was that I would find one of these hijackers with adaware, but I could quite happily leave it on there, and it wouldn\'t do anything. That is until I deleted it with adaware, then it would redirect my browser to msn.com as a      parting gift.

Now it\'s changed though, it\'s happening every f\'king time, and every f\'king time, the pop up comes up.

I\'ve also noticed that my history trail gets automatically deleted every time I turn my comp off, even though I have it set to keep the history for the last 20 days.

Like I said, I know what is causing problem 1, what can I do to stop them putting this schitt on my computer (and don\'t give me any crap about not visiting their sites for a start, as I said, I\'m getting these things much too regularly for it to be just from their site).

second, wtf could be causing the history trail thing?

get pestcontrol, adaware and spybot.  This combo will delete pretty much every bit of adware/spyware you could have...

I already have adaware and spybot, I want to know how to stop them getting on in the first place. I can\'t run adaware everytime I turn my comp in, that would be too much of an inconvenience.

Get a firewall to begin with, also can disable active X controls and Spywareblaster may help too.  It monitors your systems active X controls and cookies, not allowing it to download spyware/adware etc. Very good program.

And then, after you clean your machine up with all that bullshit, go ahead and get a man\'s browser and start using this.  If you do, I\'ll lead you to all the awesome extensions that allow you to kill any ads on demend in a webpage, including any and all ads on ign.com which is a little bitch with their flash crap.  I can teach you about mouse gestures for a much faster browsing experience.  Implement any search engine into a pre-existing google-like toolbar including ebay, google, dictionary.com, and tons of others.  Plus, you\'ll finally learn the beauty of a browser that doesn\'t eat up system resources by opening up 5 instances of itself and instead keeps it all contained in one window with the beauty that is tab browsing.

I\'m done sounding like an advertisement.  I just know that I\'ve been using this for over a week now and the need to go back to that constantly attacked POS IE hasn\'t presented itself once ever.

It\'s not a google toolbar.  I said it\'s a toolbar like the google toolbar that allows you to search a ton of different sites through some simple html code.  Besides that, even if it was a google toolbar -- which it isn\'t, you don\'t have to install the features that watch your system in the first place. :)

Mozilla is a good broswer, but OPERA is the king of all Internet broswers. Mozilla copies alot of OPERA\'S ideas. Opera has created many of the amazing User interface innovations/features.

The reason you see alot of people using Mozilla is because it\'s free, while OPERA you have to pay for the software. Keep in mind THe only difference between the full version of Opera and the free download one is that the free one has a tiny advertisment on the upper right hand corner, other than that, both versions are indentical.

If a browser maintains the functionality of a different browser, even as far as stealing its ideas, and still remains free without ads, I gotta go with it.  :)

Of course, but I\'ll say this -- I do daily scans with ad-aware before I go to bed and norton scans at 4AM every day as well while I sleep.  Norton, typically, never finds any viruses meaning my system is clean, but ad-aware, with IE running, would find at least 15-20 new things that need deleting, but ever since I started using firefox, it finds 1 or 2 at the maximum with days where it found none at all and this is with full updates and custom deep scans as well.

I don\'t care what you use to browse the web with, it\'s your perogative, but I know this is a drastic improvement over IE.

I never got any problems with IE. Unless I had Active X controls enabled without prompt. Which is a stupid thing to do on any browser..  As for you just using Adaware, it doesn\'t find all adware/spyware.  Get spybot too, you may find more then u thought you had, even more so with pest patrol.

Just saying i wouldn\'t trust my system to just adaware.   But whatever rocks your boat. :)

I didn\'t realise the google toolbar was a security issue.

We have it, well, I say that, but what I should reaaly say, is we had it, I just uninstalled it. It wasn\'t me that downloaded and installed it though, it was my dad who did that. I had no idea about it. All I know is that on monday night, it wasn\'t there, when I logged on on wednesday afternoon, it was.

I\'m just downloading the mozilla browser right now, hopefully, it will cut the crap out.

The google toolbar has this tracking option when you install it that allows spyware to enter your machine.  You can always say no to that feature and you won\'t ever get it, but it\'s most likely your dad hit next a million times and installed it without even realizing it.
